Tom_Explodes
I picked this up at a used game store a little while back. My problem is that, often, the guy won't go to the right, right-up, or right-down directions. It's not my controllers that I'm aware of, as they both work fine with everything else. Any idea? mimo
Yep, the game is shit, even on an Atari 800 the game is unplayable
kroogur
Control on this game is iffy at best i often have to just keep moving the joystick in all directions to get and progress and be careful trying to jump across the stream controls are very touchy there. Jess Ragan
Yeah, word on the street is that the game pretty much sucks. I don't have it in my collection yet, but the footage I've seen leads me to that very same conclusion.
jboypacman
I had this game in collection but it went bye-bye shortly after i played it just didnt care for it on the 5200(I like the Colecovision version some what).
jetset
There are, at most 5 unplayable games on the 5200. Congo Bongo is at the top of that list. Really though you're not missing much. Even the original coin-op was mediocre at best.
Inky
I dunno aboutthat. I loved the Coin Op. Course I could never get past the second screen... Now, all home versions except the CV version suck. Heck, I like the 2600 version better than the 5200 and 8 bit versions (but not much more)
+Cafeman
The 2 worst games on the 5200 to me are Congo Bongo and James Bond 007. Both are ugly with poor control, unfun gameplay, and more frustrating than any game should be.
Jess Ragan
James Bond 007? Now THAT I do have, and I can say with the utmost confidence that it sucks. Nothing captures the excitement of the James Bond films like a sorry Moon Patrol clone with asstastic graphics!
MIKE5200
Yep,it's crap atleast i can get the guy over to the two monkeys.. hehe
Tom_Explodes
I actually like Congo Bongo, I used to play it on my uncle's old IBM PCjr, I think? It's just this version that I really don't like. The control doesn't even suck, it just plain doesn't WORK.
mhatter106
I just recently replayed Congo Bongo, remembering fondly when I used to play it on my Apple II+... sadly.. the game wasnt quite as fun as I remembered. But I ended up writing a retrospective article about the game and its concept on my website areyouinsane.net check it out: http://www.areyouinsane.net/index.php?opti...s&Itemid=53 if the above link doesnt work, just go to http://www.areyouinsane.net and search for congo bongo in the search box It's all about the Panama Jack hat. Shannon
Yeah I remember paying $55 for the computer version of this piece of crap back in the day! I think the only other game I ever purchased was Jumpman and Missile Command.
Ron Albanese
Okay, count me in the scant group of Congo Bongo fans. I'll admit it's almost purely nostalgia, not gameplay ... it was one of those games purchased with newspaper delivery money and allowance. Sega's commercials were pretty kick-butt, although the animation was way misleading. Much like the controllers, I don't mind it too much ... the pale colors, etc. I never really played the arcade version, so I had nothing to compare it to. The simple jungle beat, the trendy man-verse-ape theme is just cool. Does the 5200 version only have two boards? I forget ... I know that I borrowed a friend's Coleco version to compare, and (sadly) it's a lot better and has one more screen ... Because of this thread, I went and checked out the 2600 ROM ... couldn't figure out how to get across the water at the top of the board? Any Congo Bonog nuts should feel free to help. Never saw the Intellivision version in action - how bad was that? I can only imagine ... How's the O2 edition ... just kidding. Ron!
Lord Thag
You know, I've never seen the appeal of COngo Bongo, in any form. Even the arcade was iffy. It was like someone tried to Zaxxon Donkey Kong. I never found it very entertaining, personally. The 5200 version is ass-tastic.
JB
I used to love the 99/4a version. But I was a dumb kid.
Crimefighter
The arcade version of Congo Bongo was fine. Every home version however was botched. Sega just dropped the ball big time with it. I couldn't understand why they didn't program all four screens and only programmed TWO.
