Hi,

Can anyone tell me if you can 'Tune' your tape recorder for the 800xl as many of my games are not loading and a lot are hit and miss. :x

Is there some way i can tune it as you did with the screwdriver on the C64??

Cheers

Danny

Yes, there are 2 small X head screws on the tape head, can't remember how to get to them though

Ok i took the tape deck to bits and gave the head a good cleaning but i still get no joy!!!

I cant see how you would get to the screws unless you took the whole things to pieces anyone know an easier way.

If i dont get my fix of Crystal Raider soon im going to explode :P

do you have a cassette recorder that you can plug in to your pc?

it may be worth trying to find the .cas files, convert them to .wav (using cas2wav) and then recording them via media player?

Anyway I have about 60 cassettes here so I will have a look what I have got

Another thing I have found to work with many old cassettes is to fully fast forward and rewind them several times before using them. I think with age the tapes tend to get a bit stuck due to lack of movement and exercising them a bit seems to make them play more smoothly.

Speaking of cassettes on the Atari 8-bit, I really think Atari had a great multimedia tool well before anyone else. The educational cassettes I have that teach you language, programming, and math really are quite good how they play voice and load data at the same time. Its really a shame Atari didn't get further saturation in schools than Apple during that period. The multimedia use was fantastic.
