Source for DIL 40 pin Dual Sided IC Socket

Dropcheck

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm trying to gather together the parts to put together the Stereo Pokey boards I recieved from Pepax. I'm having problems sourcing a couple parts. In particular the double sided 40 pin IC socket. Does anyone have a company's website that you know carries them? I have searched Mouser and Jameco and come up empty there. :(

Also if someone knows where I can find less than 500 count of 47nF/.047uF capacitors. Again I have searched Mouser and Jameco, no luck.

Thanks,

http://www.jaycar.com.au/productResults.as...=&priceMax=

They're a 5 minute drive from me, no idea if they do international orders (and it would probably be very costly anyway).

The alternative might be to use 2 20 pin sockets if you can get those.

Also, I think that you can get connectors that just have the rows and you can trim them to the size and put two in parallel at the offset you want.

What do you mean by dual sided? Something other than a normal 40 pin DIP socket?

Exactly what I was going to ask. I've seen headers, the 40 pin DIP format with pins on both sides (40 pins that protrude through both sides of the connector). If that's what you're looking for, you should be able to find it with the right search terms. But, I'm not familiar with the terminology "double sided" as it relates to an IC socket.

I'm assuming you're in the U.S. Individual components like the capacitors you seek should be available at Circuit Specialists out here in the Phoenix area. They do a lot of internet business. I don't know what their minimum dollar purchase is or how exactly that works because I just drop in when I'm on that side of town.

This is what Dropcheck is looking for (note that the photo is generic - less pins). You can see the photo of the actual part here. I searched in Digikey's catalog and didn't find it but honestly I don't know the part's correct English name. I thought everyone ordering the PCBs knew where to get the parts beforehand, otherwise I would try to include the least available ones (abroad). They are available here in Czech Republic, see GM, GES, TIPA. They all have stores in the city where I work.

In a couple of upgrades I used to do, if I wanted small one like that, I used to cut them to suit my needs. However, I don't know where they came from orignally. may be quicker in the long run to get the small one and cut it down the center and use that.

The nearest I have found so far is this:

http://www.rsaustralia.com/cgi-bin/bv/rsww...e&Nr=avl:au

catalog number 227-2639 but is a 32 pin Sil

also known as a component header by this mob.

Mouser dot com has it 554-ca-s32mp, but once again, is a 32 pin sil.

I used to set them up in a 40 pin socket and solder them on.

www.Harwin dot com part no D9240-01 is 40 pin dil version.

Hi BigO

Thanks so much!.. :) Found the cap size I was looking for and an reasonably priced heat shrink tube kit as well. Got a little bitty box for my SIO2Serial board too. And to think they were just down the road from me when I lived in Mesa a few years ago. Circuit Specialists are bookmarked now.

Check out harwin.com d9240-01

I'm not saying it won't work but still, it's not the same as this adapter. d9240-01 is actually a HEADER - the pins on both sides are not of the same shape and length.

I would have thought that the larger end was soldered to the board and the smaller end would be inserted in to a chip socket.

so that part would fit what he is chasing.

Would certainty fit what upgrades i used to do.

only problem i ever had was that the pins would break rather easily if bent a little to far.
