Controller models? More than one?

the grey one with turquoise buttons was a custom made one i do believe when they were first being produced for a man named Laury who use to work for Atari back in the Jags heyday.

He recently auctioned it off and I do believe Buddybuddies has gobbled it up for some insane amount while cackling maniacally and hiding it away with his many Jaguar kiosks.

nah, the Grey ones are the Atari Falcon controllers, the one Laury sold to buddies was a black pro controller except the D-Pad was red.

From what I've read, I thought the Grey controller on the right was

officially released by Atari, for the STe/Falcon line of computers.

It'a called a "Powerpad", and came with it's own box and everything.

I think less than a dozen games actually took advantage of it. The

design became what the Jag gamepad was ultimately based upon.

I also have one of these grey controllers in its original box.

That unit used to be sold for a short time and was dedicated for Falcon users who were looking for a Jaguar style controller. So it was a regular product. And it also works on the Jaguar.

The other controller is the so called Pro controller for the Jaguar, offering more Fire buttons and some more user options with certain Jaguar games such as Primal Rage etc.

Looking closer, the black one has shoulder buttons and the gray one doesn't.

Thanks for the input, everybody. I never knew the Falcon used a different controller. I thought it was Sega adapted or classic joystick (CX-40).

Nathan

The one on the left is a Pro controller, it also has x,y and z buttons.

Compared to the stock jag pad, the one on the left is identical (apart from the colour :D )

I've used the Jag controller on the STe and I think I even wrote code to

read it all. That was a while ago. :P .....speaking of rare controllers.....

I believe there were rumors about Atari considering a rotary controller

for the Jaguar as T2K was getting rave reviews(deservedly).

If so, I wonder if there was a proto of one? I wonder what Jeff Minter

actually used to test his code with?

If such a device exsists, I 'd love to see it. VCS driving controller?

Perhaps at first, but I have to believe there were at least 3 buttons

later on with his and a much higher rez encoder. :D

Gorf,

Yes a proto rotary controller was developed and was with Curt for a while, but has moved to pastures new unfortunately. I think Jason Smith got it, but not 100% sure where it is now. Looked good, not sure if it was a working unit or not though.

I've been using a standard Jaguar powerpad on my STE just recently with Substation, it's 100% compatible with the STE/Falcon grey powerpads. The STE and FALCON had 2 ports for powerpad controllers, just like the Jaguar, and they also still had the 2 classic ports for the mouse and CX40 type joysticks.
