Atari5200
Hello. I love restore threads and thought I would share what I've done with my MVS so far since I've had it. Originally I had no plans to restore anything, but when I received it, the controllers wouldn't hit diagonals, so getting that fixed started pretty much an addiction. Here is what Big Red looked like before I did anything. The first thing I after fixing the joy sticks was swap out all the standard buttons to HAPP competition pro buttons. I also got new 1 player and 2 player buttons. Next shot is all the micro switches replaced with brand new, now the controls are perfect. Then I got all new HAPP coin return/reject bezels and buttons, a new light, nice shiny new locks, and put carriage bolts into the 2 holes that for some reason were drilled to the left of the coin doors. The carriage bolts are only temporary until I get the paint mixed to repaint the cab, that part is not supposed to be black. Lastly, this is what she looks like so far. TO DO: the marque itself is cracked but I'm having a hard time tracking that style down, I have a v3 4-slot MVS, this weekend I'll probably go buy a couple of speakers so they both match, I have an entire art set being sent to me that I will use after I repaint the CAB, but have to first get the color mixed, which probably won't happen for a couple weeks, and lastly, I plan to replace the controller panel. djpubba
Do your marquee light panels work? Two of my four are bad and I need to do something about it.
Atari5200
technically, 3 out of the 4 work on mine. The first one doesn't work, 2 works, when game 3 is on, it lights up, but makes some weird high pitch squealing sound and light 4 works. I've disconnected mine. From what I understand there's no way to fix them, will have to buy an entire new board. That's low on my priority list, I just want to find a good shape marquee first worry about the lights and the light board after the fact. djpubba
Wow y'all started trying to work with ed four years ago! I was eyeballing some panels on eBay too. Found some that looked like they'ed work but the seller wouldn't combine shipping on four panels.
the.golden.ax
Okay I'm trying to understand this. I have a 4 slot and 6 slot that don't have working back-lights. Are you saying I can replace them? If so how and where do I get this wonder product? AX

If so how and where do I get this wonder product? AX You just have to de-solder the old bulbs two small solder points each bulb and pull them off the back board.they are sticky glued on. Then put the replacements in,stick them on and solder the two small posts for each.. I used to have a picture tutorial folder but it went with my old computer(blew out) I've been working with the originals for years..I used to buy up all the light boards I'd find(one two good bulbs) and put them all on a 4-6 slot back board and sell them Both my Big Red 4 Slot and Two slot woody have good original bulbs in them..I have found breaks in the lines on some bulbs and repaired them..You have to press around the sides of the bulbs and see if they come on.. When the replacements came out I and another member worked with Ed to get them right(I send him parts to duplicate) But Ed is.....not reliable.. I did a replacement job for a friend of mine/lives in another state...he bought 4 replacement bulbs from Ed(it took awhile to get)..He sent me all the stuff and I installed the replacements..He had tried to install them himself but isn't used to doing that type stuff so he messed up the wires to the bulbs. I fixed them.. When you first turn them on they give off a burning smell but it's normal... I sent the stuff back to my friend and they still work in his 4 slot.. I did it for free because I wanted to see just what they look like and how they work..They are amazing.... I was hoping maybe Ed might want to work something out.. I'd install them if I had stock of them....I can't install them, one be bad and not be able to replace it without having some in stock.. Again,Ed is impossible to contact so I gave up I don't have a replacement set myself.. I'm curious of the Ebay bulbs..They may be able to be cut,add two wires and your set. It maybe just a pipe dream, but I have often thought it would be cool to have a set of small LCD's in there with digital marquee's (think four photo frames). AX That would be awesome!!!! ................................................................................ .............. I think the Japanese Hyper 64 Candy Cab has an LCD monitor on the top of it that-the game playing plays on that screen also-for the people standing behind the player to see.. I also think it may have been used to show via camera a player on a linked up machine(Just thinking of anything I have seen of similarity) I saw something on TV where Japan made a small(paper thin) flexable TV screen this is in the same size as the bulbs in an MVS cab.. Atari5200
here are some pics, sorry, quality not great. I used 6.5" speakers...thumpin' lol. Next picture is from the front, best I could, I got nothing to use to hold up the marquee cover. Finally, picture from the front with the marque cover down. Hard to see detail. But it's a huge difference from the original speakers, they didn't even match.
