4 port or 2 port?

I was wondering, if the 4 port is better than the 2 port.

Because I heard that the 2 port isn't compatable with some 5200 games.

I dont know a lot of the differences but I do know that the 4 port is incompatible with the 2600 adapter.

Well I have a 4 port Atari 5200. The one I own, is one of the rarer ones that is compatable with the 2600 adapter.

But I was asking, if the 2 port one is better to have.

There are basically three differences between the 2port and 4port 5200s.

 

1) One has 4 joystick ports and the other has 2 joystick ports. (Duh) There are only a few games that use the extra two ports however.

2) TV switchbox is proprietary on the 4port and prone to failure. 2port uses a standard switchbox. Note that the 4port can be modded to use a standard switchbox.

3) Compatibility with the 2600 adapter and three 5200 games. Most 4ports do not work with the 2600 adapter though they can be modded to work with it. Most 2ports will not play Pitfall, Mountain King and Krazy Shootout due to the revised BIOS chip. Replacing the BIOS chip with the original BIOS rev will restore compatibility.

Go for the 4-port. Here are the reasons: 1. The mod to make the 2600 adapter to work is very easy to do. 2. Why use the 2600 adapter, just get a 2600 jr. 3. the best reason to get it, CASTLE CRISIS. The only drawback is you have to find four joysticks that work. or spending thirty bucks a pop to get the controllers working.
