the.golden.ax
>Intended to post this in the auction section of Marketplace. Okay, so I sold my personal copy of Quackshot. Something that I have not only regreted but has actually caused me to want to try and buy back all the black grid box games for Genesis I had as a teen. Problem is the guy pestered me for several weeks about the whereabouts (international), then it was delivered yesterday. He says it plays in Japanese on his system. Is that even possible? This was a Genesis game, I was the original owner, it was very much English. It wasn't Mega Drive. I told him to send it back and I'd refund him (I want it back anyway). However, if the game comes back and it has a Mega Drive rom in it, what should my reaction to this be? I have a personal history with this game. I know it isn't a Japanese game. Bratwurst
Some of the early black box Genesis games used dual-region roms and you can access the Japanese side by booting with a Game Genie code. Sometimes the Jap version comes up through a random miracle of mixed data bits by one mishap or another (bumping the cartridge while running the game, yanking one cartridge out while the system still has power and sticking another cartridge in, etc.) Ghouls 'N Ghosts is a good example of this. My guess is the cartridge contacts needs to be cleaned really good and give it another try.

djpubba
That's completely normal. I installed a region switch on my Genesis and in Japanese mode, many games play in Japanese. In US mode, they play in English.
Bratwurst
He admited to using it on "not an american" system. For the early Genesis games the system will boot the software in its hard-wired region. Shouldn't make a permanent change though.
