Black&White Scart...any solutions out there?

Hello all, recently I bought a french atari 7800 for the scart...

The 7800 arrived today, safe and sound.

Seems to be working fine, but I tried it on a coulpe of tvs I have here but it is black&white on both.

Both tv's are pal, but also support secam...

Also, both tvs have RGB scart...

The cable seems to be fine, since the picture is actually quite clear.

Tried shaking it while plugged, but no colors there at all...

Tried 2600 carts and asteroids built in...

anyone have any ideas of what to do/try?

I don't mind changing caps or experimenting with pots...as long as someone knows about it...

I also checked the forum but no clear answers about the matter...

thanks in advance..

Often only one of the many scart inputs will be RGB, and on some Televisions you will have to go into the settings menu to select RGB.

Good luck, The Secam 7800s are nice, but hate the Cuttle Cart II (well the 2 I had did not work with the CC2)

Already checked that it is the correct RGB input...the other scart input showss white screen only sound.

The RGB one show black & white..but totally sharp and clear image.

On a smaller tv i have its the same...

Scart is RGB for sure....

nice you told me about the CC2...i was planned to gather some money and buy one...

any other advice guys?

You could try checking continuity if you have a multimeter ie check that there are no breaks in the cable, also try and give the plug/socket a clean.

Other than that, my knowledge is exhausted, maybe Mitch has some ideas

yeah...that's a nice idea...was thinking to open up the cable to check the connection...

i'm stupid enough that i didn't think the multimeter check :)

will also do a thorough cleaning...at sockets and the cart input...maybe its just dirt or something

FYI, my Cuttle Cart 2 works fine with my SCART 7800, I think mimo had some bad luck there. CC2's are expensive though, so you might check if someone in your area has one that you can test with before you buy one.

As for the color issue, it's hard to say. Since it's happening on both 2600 and 7800 games it's probably not the system board color adjustment pots. I'm guessing something on the RGB daughter board is wrong. The fact that you have no color at all means it probably is not your cable or the connector since if there was a problem on one of those you would only be missing one color not all of the colors. You do want to check the connections between the system board and the daughter board. It seems like there may have been an adjustment pot on the daughter board, you can try adjusting that if you don't see any problems with the connections. Just make sure to mark where it was before you change it.

Can the RGB 7800's run on an Atari SC1435?

I never tried it on an SC1435 before so I just did. Works great, just using the stock cable that comes with the SC1435. It does not work on the Goldstar SC1224 but that one doesn't support composite sync either so that's not too surprising. I wonder if it would work with the other SC1224 models?

Can that RGB daughter board be installed on a NTSC 7800?

Maybe but it's currently configured for a PAL signal so it would probably need a fair amount of rework to use it.

WOW, I would love to see that 7800 running on an Atari SC1435, I know that Jag with the Atari SC1435 is just awesome. Say does the light gun games work with the Atari SC1435? I know the light gun games didn't run on my TV at all! :x

I don't see why a light gun wouldn't work on the SC1435. I suppose I can try if I feel motivated to pull it out again later. :P

Is your TV an HD set?

And yes, the Jag is very nice on a SC1435. :)

Projection TV with a 52" screen, someone told me that the refresh rate is high for the lightgun to work with my TV.

Hey there..thanks for the interest.

I didn't find the chance to open it and test.

All my free time these days is going to modifying an original Arcade cabinet i recently found.

As i said, turned pots with no success...

Even tried on a couple of more tv's with no success...

i'm still open for proposals though concerning what i should try...

Hi!

i read you here by pure hazard, i'm french, i have 7800 scart, i try to help

you problems looks like your tv set is not secam compatible

it looks like us (frenchies) when we try to use your pal consoles, we have only black'n white on our tv set even it's pal compatible, sometimes it doesn't work easily

suggestions :

- try a videotape recorder input

- try it on a pure RGB monitor like Commodore 1084SD or atari motinor. Remember our video signal is 50Hz, so all light guns will not work on your 60Hz tvs

- Atari 7800 french video scart cable is : RGB colors + audio mono + video synch and ground + pin 16 for setup AV mode and color mode + pin 8 to set up 4/3

try to unplug pins 16 and 8 from the scart, perhaps a chance to work

if you search information in europe, remember Scart name is originally "peritel"

hope 2 help, bye ;)
