It's a repro!

Someone is selling an NES Xybots cart on E-Bay. Only problem is that Xybots was never released and it is a reproduction but it doesn't say so on the page. I wasn't going to bid on it, though, because it is a reproduction. I'm only into actual released black Tengen carts (I'm trying for a complete collection.) To be fair, he does refer the buyer to the Wiki page, which says as much. Indirectly.

I think "repro" is the generally accepted term (at least in the classic gaming community) for carts produced by someone other than the original developer and without that developer's consent. This would apply to new copies of rare games as well as new copies produced of unreleased titles.

Ah. Well, I guess in that case I will stop getting all worked up when someone slips and calls it a "repo" then!

 

(As long as the meaning is that non-specific to begin with!)

 

Otherwise, how about a "reproto"?
