Zwackery
I wonder if it still has that "new Atari smell": a gentle blend of cartridge shell plastic and box cardboard with a hint of manual inks...

I should start making these things! --Selgus
Mirage
That's insane. I have a hard time believing there's more than one person who would pay this much for that. I understand if someone really is trying to get a complete sealed 7800 collection including every variation of box/bundle... but MORE than one person? Ehhhh... okay. Either way, I think they're crazy.
bojay1997
That box isn't even mint. That's totally unbelievable.
Buyatari
ehh how many semi common NES games get $500 sealed these days? $500 for a NEW system isn't THAT crazy is it? We have seen sealed 2600s and Colecovisions and Vectreckki get more than this.

Yes, but it's a 7800 which was pretty readily available up until just a few years ago from various resellers NIB for not too much money. At least 2600s and Colecovisions and Vectrexes have been basically off the market for at least 20 years now. Plus, this system wasn't even in the much rarer original release box and it looks like this was one of those bundles that was sold in the mid-90s by Big Lots or whatever that liquidation chain was that had the 7800 and 2600 Jr. packages for sale. $500 just seems like a lot for that item in that condition. Well there are newer collectors around who weren't here back then. How many of these NEW 7800 systems were offered on ebay in the past year? I dunno I haven't looked to buy a NEW 7800 system but I would guess the well is dry now.

homerwannabee
Yeah, this one is definitely strange. You can also get a new in box Atari 2600 for about $500. Over the past few years while the prices of most Atari 2600 games have remained stagnate or gone down, the prices of Atari 7800 games have actually dramatically increased for the most part. I have no idea why this is.
