Longhorn Engineer
There is a thread like this for Heavy Sixers but I am trying to find more information about Juniors (specifically the single chip ones) and I find there is practically zero information on the serial numbers out there. From what I have gathered there are two types of cases. Short Rainbow for the early models and the long rainbow for the later models. So how about we make a database similar to the Heavy Sixer thread? Post your serial numbers, short/long rainbow, and any other info like board rev numbers and whether its a single chip or multi chip Atari. Ian Primus
OK, here's a Junior I found locally a couple weeks ago... Short rainbow. Serial number AT860140367. It's a multi-chip unit, the back of the board reads C021503 Rev. C When I find the other Jr. I have, I'll post it too. It was a real basket case - but I know it's around here somewhere -Ian
+Mitch
Long Rainbow jr serial# AT860565177 Three chip version NTSC I have a short rainbow jr around somewhere that I'll try to dig up. Mitch
Longhorn Engineer
Good idea Mitch, NTSC/PAL would help sorting to. From the looks of things already we can say that ATXXXXXXXXX is before A1XXXXXXXXX.

Mirage
Short Rainbow - AT 861081830 - NTSC Long Rainbow - A1 98204161 (the "98" on this one is stamped in a greenish ink, and is slightly crooked, different than the rest of the straight printed black letters... but it's definitely 98 not 86, the 8 is right-side-up) - NTSC Edited February 25, 2009 by Mirage1972

I will check my "A198" tonight to see if it is green stamped. I wonder if yours is a single chip like mine.
Longhorn Engineer
Ax informed me that the juniors with 1 chip might not have all the RF shielding that other Juniors have. So if your Junior weighs significantly less then another Junior it may be a single chip.

I will check my "A198" tonight to see if it is green stamped. I wonder if yours is a single chip like mine. Ooops, sorry. Below is the correct serial Long Rainbow - A1 982041661 - NTSC Sorry about that! My long-rainbow one is significantly lighter than the short-rainbow one. I noticed that last night when I was checking the serials. As far as the chips go, I'd rather not open these up... BUT if it becomes a pressing question later, like you really want to know for historical knowledge... I will do it, just let me know. I just will put it down as a possible 1 chip. If its much lighter then most likely it is missing its RF shielding (ie a 1 chip) Here are my two. Both are long rainbow and NTSC. A1851562824 A1781073226 I'd also be willing to open mine if it comes down to some question of historical significance. I am not asking people to open them up but doing so does help. Just knowing the Serial number, What version, and is it heaver then an older Junior should give plenty of information.

I did notice that the "78" was much lighter than the "85", but then I remembered that I may not have put all of the shielding back after a more-or-less successful composite mod.
