+Psionic
I really don't get the "would of" thing... yes, "would've" and "would of" sound the same. But isn't it really obvious that "would of" makes no sense? Of is a preposition, why would you think it would go in a place for a verb? You wouldn't say "I of gone to the store today", would you? Then why would you say "I would of gone to the store today if I had time"? Because realizing that would actually require thinking...something that people who type/write like that don't do. [This isn't meant as a personal complaint, just an observation that people do this all the time and I really don't understand how that could seem right.] I'm not so sure about people doing this "all the time". The only place I've seen it is on web message boards. I don't ever recall seeing that kind of grammar mistake in the pre-internet era...not even correcting school papers back in elementary school. homerwannabee
How many freaking grammar nazi's do we have on this board. It's a grammar error, get over it. The arrogance over this is outstanding. Oh, and by the way, this error is pretty constant on the Internet today. Yes if you type in "Would of" in google you will get the first sites correcting you. But here is what happens when you type in "Would of" and baseball http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&cli...amp;btnG=Search or "Would of" and John Denver http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&cli...amp;btnG=Search Or "Would of" and Hitler http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&cli...amp;btnG=Search Or "Would of" and collecting http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&cli...amp;btnG=Search Do you get the freaking picture. This not something that just vanished 15 years ago. People all the time make this error. Oh, and I love how it's implied that a person who makes this error does not think. Fact is I could take anyone of my detractors in this thread and destroy them in a game of chess. Fact is my strong point is on the mathematical side. Most people don't know how to multiply 17 times 15 in their heads, and I can big whoop tie whoop. Fact is that I got it. I understand pretty clearly after looking at the grammar site that "would of" is grammatically incorrect. It's one thing to correct someone it's another to badger someone over a simple grammar error. I get it, now get off my freaking back. Edited March 17, 2009 by homerwannabee

As you can see even on this site it's been done by well respected members. The bad deeds of others in the past do not excuse your bad deeds today. Like you, they will be marched into the death camps and made to suffer for months before being turned into food for our shape-shifting alien masters from another dimension.
