Nope, as far as I can tell, they have not even finalized a script for it yet.

Correct, the project is still in development. It could be years before they start shooting, let alone release the film.

I figured they would be able to crank this out. They won't need any stunts or special effects !

How about Tod, Walking on the Walls and getting his head split open. You think they will use CGI or Dick Smith, make up Expert? :D

You would be shocked at how slowly things are working in the film industry right now. Even in the good times, it could take 2-3 years from the time you had a name actor attached and a script in acceptable form to actually start production. Nowadays, with the removal of a lot of funds from investors and investment banks, even the large studios are very hesitant to move forward on projects since they can't exactly get funding together as easily as they did just 6-8 months ago.

Yet I still doubt that the film industry will accept that times have changed and the tech that they used to be the gatekeepers of are available to pretty much anyone. Perhaps the next few years will show the film industry the value of operating lean, and that upstart independents + the internet can make an impact too. We'll see... ;)

The independents are in even worse shape than the studios unfortunately. With credit drying up, it is almost impossible to get financing on independent projects right now.
