8 bit cart prices going.....

Any body else notice that 8 bit cart prices seem to be dramatically rising on Ebay in the last while? I'm seeing carts as common as pacman go for as much as 10USD while slightly less common carts are going for 15-20(I think I saw joust go for 18usd). Holy crow, I just saw Zaxxon go for 52.00usd and not even a month and a half ago, I got it in a lot of 18 carts for 40usd!!!! Wow, people are making some $$ right now!!!!!

That sucks! I finally get some extra money coming my way to shop a little for my 800 and the prices go up. Geesh.

that's really bad. i was enjoying the low prices compared to the 2600.

Actually I did notice that. Still, the rarest 400/800 games will rarely break $100, and I've never seen one go higher than $250. It's still cheap compared to the 2600, but not as cheap as it once was.

A big factor is the way the items are listed. Not every buyer is that knowledgeble about compatibility. They search for carts that are for their model, say an 800, and do not look at something listed as XE, for example. They also don't investigate the big lots. Either because they don't want duplicates or the title may say "atari home computer lot" and they never see in their searches. When the seller lists individual carts and puts the right keywords in the Title and description, you definitely see higher prices on average, but even those trend up and down. So be patient

Basically rule of supply and demand. As there are less and less 8 bit cartridges available and there is still a demand for them, it will cause the price to rise. Eventually it gets to a point where it will not sell at such a price and a vendor has to lower the price in order to be able to sell the item.

and plus you really can't find these games as easily as some of the 2600 stuff, so ebay is one of the best places to get them... the best thing i found was a copy of submarine commander for $2 at the reuse it center center
