GOTHCLAWZ
What is it called? What can I use it for? Edited April 22, 2009 by GOTHCLAWZ
GroovyBee
Where did you get it? Its a USB to 9 pin D adapter so it could be a joystick adapter. However, I thought that the PC pre USB joysticks were 15 pins .
Ian Primus
It's an RS-232 to USB adapter. It's used to connect older serial devices to newer computers, which are sorely lacking in serial ports. -Ian
GroovyBee
DOH! I've got joysticks on the brain lately. I've been mesmerised by Ax's 7800 joysticks. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it .

GroovyBee
Don't old game controllers work on the RS-232? Nope! They are parallel input devices. Have a look at :- http://www.atariage.com/2600/faq/index.htm...ID=2600#pinouts

GroovyBee
You might consider purchasing a Stelladaptor 2600 to USB Interface from the AA store to use standard 9 pin joysticks. Otherwise you'll need a 15 pin joystick to USB adapter off EBay.

Well, I tried that adapter in the pic on my Sega Megadrive controller & I can't seem to get it working... will the 2600 to USB interface work? GroovyBee
I don't have a Stelladapter but I suspect many AA folks would vouch for it "doing exactly what it says on the tin" . I don't have a SegaMegadrive either but I'm guessing its controllers aren't RS232 (too expensive, back in the day), so no surprise it doesn't work as expected. It fits in RS232, but I can't get my computer to think that there's a gamepad plugged into it.
GroovyBee
Just because it fits into the connector doesn't mean its RS232. Looking at the Megadrive joystick pinout its not going to work (Remember! Google is your friend).
