+McCallister
Got a new television the other day. Hooked up the 7800 hit the power and after a two second or so delay, the picture came right up. I had read the various threads here about incompatibility issues with newer televisions and thus, felt stoked it came up the first try. Elation came to an end a few seconds later, when I realized I wasn't getting any sound. Thinking it's the tv, I hooked up a 2600 and ala peanut butter sandwiches, it worked fine. Hooked up an Intellivision and it too, completely worked. Then tried the 7800 on the old tv and it worked like it always had in the past. Anyone have any ideas on why only the 7800 has a sound problem with new tv?

Anyone have any ideas on why only the 7800 has a sound problem with new tv? I am sorry I can offer no solution, but was curious if picture looked crappy or distorted? I am assuming it's a 16 x 9 screen format, and either a 720 or 1080p. Did picture look stretched or extra blocky due to the high resolution of your screen? Sorry about the sound on your 7800, hope one of the bright minds on here can offer up a reason.
guyjin
I don't have any idea why you're getting no sound, but have you tried running the 7800's RF output to a VCR, and then using the VCR's AV outs to connect to the TV?
DracIsBack
I'm curious to know how it looks too! The games I find that look the worst so far are the early 3D games. N64 and Jaguar games look just terrible on my 720p tv. I think the low resolution textures really show their faults.

Have not tried that yet, but probably will next. The funny part to me is that all the other systems, including the 2600 all work just fine. The television is 1080p. I have to say, though, the 7800 screen looks fantastic. Crisp and sharp, with no artifacts or warping. It keeps the aspect ratio just like a traditional tube tv and didn't even attempt to stretch it to fit. I was pleasantly surprised by that, actually. sciarpo
I have a 1080p, and the 7800 looks great. I have mine also sent through a VCR and the audio comes out of the VCR outputs.
j.m.ratkos
I've got a sony 46xbr5 (1080p) set and have no issues with my 7800. I'm using one of those rca-75ohm convertors and I don't recall having any issues with video and/or sound. however, a friend of mine did have issues with black/white video with his westinghouse (720p) set. how are you connecting your 7800, directly or through a vcr? I am still going directly, using a switchbox. Today I tried a Colecovision and it, too, produces no sound. So, the summation I have found is as follows: 2600: works great. Intellivision: works great. 7800: No sound, great picture. Coleco: No sound, great picture. Thought it might be the channel, as I used channel 4 with the Intellivision. But I tried the 2600 and the 7800 on channel 3 and only the 2600 worked completely.
rockman_x_2002
I've had zero problems with my 7800 on my own personal 720p television. I haven't tried it out on the 1080p one in the living room, however, though I'll try getting around to that sometime soon. So far the only systems I've found that look particularly crummy are the N64 and early 3D systems. Anything post-Dreamcast looks decent to good, and most retro machines look decent as well, but vary in quality. In my opinion, of all the retro consoles I've tried out on my 720p, the 2600, 7800, and Commodore 64 look best.

Try the Dreamcast with a VGA adapter! I find with that, a lot of its games look better than my GameCube games (particularly the ones that don't support progressive scan). I needed to use channel 4 as well (channel 3 was either really fuzzy or didn't display at all).
