a helpful hint. You should have media mail as an option. :)

AFAIK, the Post Office does not like magazines sent via Media Mail as Media Mail specifically says "Media Mail can not contain advertising except for incidental announcements of books". Don't be surprised if the PO opens up the package and then slaps the receiver with a postage due notice.

You are probably right. I have sent over 2 thousand packages media mail with comics in them and never had a problem though. I guess I am just lucky. :)

I see both sides here. There is no problem with someone clearly stating the rules reguardless of the chance of getting caught. Some people will follow the rules even if there is no chance of getting caught. Others set their own rules based on what they can get away with.

Correct information is helpful in either case.

I used to ship magazines media mail, until a few months ago when I package I sent with about 40 magazines was returned to me, with $ due. Had to go back to the post and resend it parcel post. So, I won't be sending mags media mail anymore. ;) Besides, it's really not THAT much cheaper than the flat rate boxes... Unless you are sending well over 50 mags. Honestly they probably only open up 1 out of 100 boxes ship media mail. I just got unlucky once.

And yes, you are lucky, sending that many media mail and never once getting a package returned! :P

I received lots of comic book shipments via Media Mail and never had a problem. It's like the Post Office doesn't bother to think that comic books contain ads. I did, however, get a comic book one time in my mailbox that the carrier decided to fold in half to insert it...I raised holy hell down at the PO over that one. The mangled corpse of that book got shoved in many a face that day.

BTW, the book in question was Chamber of Darkness #4 (Roy Thomas and Barry Smith on Starr the Slayer).
