Marc Oberhäuser
The 5200 looks interesting as well. As far as I can see it has no logo on the face plate.

Its got a cart slot and joystick ports in the back but from first glance it looks like a pong unit that someone painted blue then ran over with a truck. ninermaniac
The 5200 looks interesting as well. As far as I can see it has no logo on the face plate. That is right. Looks as if it might be the early 4 port model. I'll see if he can post a pic of the serial # sticker on the bottom. The all black looks nicer. At first glance I thought those were pong paddles on the unit but they're built in joysticks. So this was scrapped for the junior? Probably a smart move. ninermaniac
I need to get this item....one of the few Atari 2600 protos I DO NOT have.... Really? My Only Question is, is this proto worth 5K? I thought for sure I saw one last year sell for right at 3K. Or was it $2500?

Tempest
The seller asked me my opinion and I told them that I thought it was worth between $2,000 and $3,000. Tempest

r_type2600
Auctions can sometimes go lower than a private sale but if one sold for 1700 it must have been under the radar. Hmm, if I recall correctly it went for $2200 last autumn (incl. 2 lab loaners). Was set up as a regular auction but then ended as a BIN within a few hours... Some smart wiz got it, I believe (well done ) Edited July 19, 2009 by r_type2600
ninermaniac
Got a message back from the seller about the 5200. You know I have looked this unit all over and I have not seen anything that would resemble a serial number. Given the circumstances and history of this unit, I would not be surprised if it wasn't issued one. - ryder267 Could just be an empty shell. Don't know. CPUWIZ
See avatar, seller was someone I know. It is however worth closer to the asking price of this auction.
