I just got back from the record store again. I bought "Eat a Peach" by the Allman Brothers Band and "Brain Salad Surgery" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. I had these two on CD, but I decided to start a long song VINYL collection as well since I have some long songs on vinyl that I don't have on CD. Eat a Peach has the 33-minute long "Mountain Jam", which is so long, it took up two sides of the double album. Brain Salad Surgery has the 29-minute long epic "Karn Evil 9" which takes up 1 1/2 sides of the whole one disc album, which makes me wonder why not just name the album Karn Evil 9? On the back it just has the words BRAIN SALAD SURGERY in white letters against a black background, so I wouldn't have had an idea what was on the album. Lucky for me I knew there was a long song on it. I was actually looking for it. You know what I hate about vinyl? Sometimes the records don't say how long the songs are. Every record should say how long the songs are. Second: Why vinyl? Vinyl can warp or melt. Did they not have plastic back in Edison's day? Once you think about it, though, it is kind of amazing how they make sound come from a lump of wax once you put a needle on it and spin it around. And I will try the tip for Castlevania once I feel like fighting the game again.
