I've been attending the Houston Art Crawl for the past few years to support my friend Theresa, who shows off her art during the event. The Art Crawl takes place in various old warehouses downtown that have been converted into artist studios over the years, and is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

This was the first year I picked up a piece of art - Pick-Up Sticks by Joyce Dwight.

It's made from dichroic glass and needs to be placed against a dark background, else the shimmering blues, purples and greens get washed out. I was planning to place it on a shelf in my wall unit, and hang a dark cloth behind it, but the piece was too large to fit on an inside shelf. Mom's been staying with me until the dogs are allowed into Trinidad (dad's job took him there a couple months ago), and she suggested we paint the wall.

I also saw another piece I liked at the first place we stopped at during the crawl. I've dropped the artist an email to see if it's still available. I'll call him on Sunday if I haven't heard back as he might not check his email often. I'd like to place it in the in the area above the futon that can be seen in the above photo "Wall unit back together".
