AussieAtari
As I have pretty much every day for the last three months - a LEGO game on my DSiXL for at least one hour. This time Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga, 20 minutes so far, breaking to catch up on the cricket and have a look at the forum before returning to the game.

Kurt_Woloch
OK... here are my times for this week of December 13th through 19th... probably my silliest week so far... The classic game (eligible for the Top 10, though maybe not pre-NES): Paperboy (Arcade) 51 minutes The non-classic games (non-eligible for the Top 10): The settlers (Facebook) 119 minutes in more than 12 sessions Die Siedler (The settlers) Online (Online) 321 minutes in 14 sessions Cityville (Facebook) 41 minutes in 2 sessions Lovely Kitchen (PC) 198 minutes in 4 sessions Kingdoms of Camelot (Facebook) 5 minutes Animal paradise (Facebook) 5 minutes Cafe World (Facebook) 12 minutes Mafia Wars (Facebook) 10 minutes Farmville (Facebook) 26 minutes ORF Ski Challenge (PC) 23 minutes Truck loader (Online) 3 minutes Papas Burgeria (Online) 20 minutes Zuma Blitz (Facebook) 22 minutes Let's start with the classic one... it's Paperboy, where I first tried to make an MP3 of its music. You can find a pretty good version of it on YouTube, but I wanted to also have the intro with the voiceover "Paperboy journeys to a world of incredible danger"... and that's what I took from the actual game. After that I also actually PLAYED the game and got pretty far (up to Wednesday or Thursday, I think). Then, the non-classic ones, and that's where the real tragedy starts. Many of the facebook games I didn't play because I actually wanted to play them, but only to get rid of the Facebook requests for them which had queued up, so that I'd get to the requests for the game I actually wanted to play, "The settlers". Unfortunately, I need these requests because in that game, I'm currently stuck with two quests you can only solve by having some neighbors send you some specific stuff (white roses and a lemon tree, in this case). The job of "playing" the other games got pretty annoying... I dived into a game for a short time, only to exit only a few minutes later to continue clicking on the requests. On some more abstract or complicated games, I didn't even try to figure out what I should actually do in the game (Kingdoms of Camelot and Mafia Wars - actually, I think I played two different Mafia games, but I don't know which is which). I got pretty sick from doing that... Anyway, there were again some new games in the bunch: Animal Paradise seems to be some kind of Tamagotchi where animals running left and right on a meadow are shown, and from time to time one gets sick and you have to care for it. OK, so actually all Facebook games are variants of Tamagotchis. :-) Truck Loader is a game where you go left and right with some vehicle trying to load a truck with parcels. You can use a magnet to attract the parcels to your arm and have to place them in the correct spot of the truck. Papas Burgeria is some kind of restaurant simulation, but it's divided in several screens where you take orders, grill patties and build burgers. It seems to be not too fast (compared with hectic games like Lovely Kitchen), but also got boring after some time. Finally, Zuma Blitz is a variant on Zuma where you only get 60 seconds of play time after which the game ends. During that time, you have to try to accumulate as many points as possible, but you sometimes get hourglass balls which give you 5 extra seconds on eliminating them. As for the other games I've played, The Settlers Online this week took the most time because I got to Level 17 where you can start to trade with other players. This was rather confusing at the start, but with the last update, they introduced a better trading system, and I successfully executed some trades with other players. In "Lovely Kitchen", I managed to complete "Casual Mode" but then got stuck in "Simulation mode" where I can't get past, I think, Level 1-8. The action just gets too fast at that point in order for me to be able to make the goal of 38 happy customers out of 40 total. And I set a policy for myself which basically affects all games I play, where if I don't make any progress during a half-hour session, I'll stop playing this game. This is what now happened to Lovely Kitchen. In ORF Ski Challenge '11, I managed to complete the 2nd race (Gröden), which is rather easy compared to the first one. In the slowest ski setting, I finished the race on first try. All in all, I had 805 minutes of gaming this week, which is nearly 2 hours per day (again!). Actually, due to the mess with the Facebook games, I look forward to being able to stop tabulating this at the end of 2010.

+thegoldenband
Times for the week: Sega CD: Annet Futatabi - 171 min. 3DO: BattleSport - 10 min. Captain Quazar - 3 min. Casper - 20 min. Crash 'n' Burn - 25 min. Gex - 5 min. Immercenary - 82 min. Novastorm - 3 min. PaTaank - 20 min. PGA Tour Golf '96 - 55 min. Phoenix 3 - 24 min. Samurai Showdown - 23 min. Super Street Fighter II Turbo - 49 min. The Need For Speed - 10 min. Played a bunch of 3DO games, most of which I found mildly to moderately engaging. The golf game is pretty fun if a bit slow, and Immercenary is like a bizarre cross between Shadowrun and Spectre VR. Not without its charm, but definitely an acquired taste at best. I also beat the Japan-exclusive Annet Futatabi, a mediocre (at best) sequel to El Viento and Earnest Evans. Nice soundtrack, attractive cutscenes, and totally broken gameplay. If not, you can count the Sega Arcade Collection under the arcade version of OutRun. (I don't know who "you" is in that sentence, since cvga is AWOL.) Kurt_Woloch
Here are my times for the past week (December 20th through 26th)... I know I'm late again, but I suppose it doesn't matter anymore anyway, and also I didn't play any classic games, but only Facebook and online games which wouldn't count for the Top 10 anyway: The settlers (Facebook) 182 minutes in over 16 sessions Die Siedler (The settlers) Online (Online) 46 minutes in 9 sessions Cityville (Facebook) 524 minutes in 4 sessions Farmville (Facebook) 38 minutes Lucky train (Facebook) 11 minutes ORF Ski Challenge 11 (PC) 19 minutes I think I didn't play any games I didn't tell you about yet... in "The settlers" on Facebook, the quests take longer and longer to complete, so there's less and less to do each day, plus I skipped visiting all my neighbors for multiple days. In "Die Siedler Online" I ran into a serious problem where the game doesn't let me log in anymore. I logged in with my Facebook account, but now it wants me to supply my e-mail address and confirm this by entering my password... but I didn't ever enter a password into the system, so I can't log in anymore since any password I enter is invalid. In "ORF Ski Challenge 11", I qualified for the third race, but it doesn't take place yet. I only played "Lucky train" and "Farmville" rather briefly because I got so many requests for those games. Finally, "Cityville" was the real killer this week. Basically I started to look deeper into this one because most of my friends on Facebook seem to have picked it up, but it is able to take some serious time... I played it for nearly 7 hours on December 25th, and nearly 9 hours in total. I think I way overdid this one, and I'm trying to cut back on gaming time again, since I reached a total of 820 minutes of gaming again (117 minutes per day) where initially I planned to cut it back to an hour per day. +thegoldenband
So, how shall we continue this in the New Year? Obviously we'll want to start a new thread with a new recordkeeper. Any volunteers? In terms of continuity with the past, it seems like we should have enough information to reconstruct most or all of cvga's database, if someone wants to take that on. Anytime we have a "total playtime to date" post for a particular game, all earlier posts can automatically be disregarded, so that e.g. cvga's quarterly summary here will save a lot of time. +thegoldenband
OK, I've put together a spreadsheet with the times from the 2008 thread. Unfortunately my numbers don't quite match cvga's numbers posted in his summary, probably because I didn't include a few games that are too recent for the tracker. I don't know if I have it in me to do the same thing for the far longer 2009 thread, but maybe someone else is up for it? what have you played 2008.xls Edited January 1, 2011 by thegoldenband
+thegoldenband
I'll start a new tracker thread for 2011 tomorrow, I think. I'm also going to tabulate the stats for all the weeks in 2010 that cvga hasn't posted, and post top 10 lists for those weeks. I'm very reluctant to redo the stats for 2009 and the first part of 2010, however; it'd be great if cvga were to resurface and share his database. Here's hoping for a renaissance in the 2011 thread! Even though the 2010 tracker sort of crashed and burned, I really like the way that logging my gameplay has changed my perspective and gaming habits.
