SoulBlazer
I like how he says he won't ship internationaly, to Canada, or to Puerto Rico. Does he know that Puerto Rico is a PART of the United States? Or is he showing how white trash he is?
seanhq
Pawn Stars is a pretty cool show. I watch it all the time. American Pickers is another good one.
phaxda
That is some great salesmanship. He will probably ship it in a Hefty bag, though: too lazy to list games=too lazy to pack well.

They are not all Atari carts, there is a TI Demolition City cart on the top of the stack.

oldgames
Check out this answer I got to my ASQ. Keep in mind this is from a guy that every week harps on how important it is to get documentation on collectible items. (They did respond right away, though. I was a bit surprised by that.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear goldsilverpawn, Hi guys. Love your show! Will the winning bidder get documentation to verify that this is the Atari that appeared on the episode of your show? Thanks, Dave -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- no i do not provide that. i will send an autographed photo signed by all the stars though - goldsilverpawn -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ... SpendTooMuchOnAtari
Wow, that sounds like a lot...for a pawn shop anyway.
oldgames
Wow, that sounds like a lot...for a pawn shop anyway. It was Cory and Chum that bought it and they don't know chit about anything. I feel sorry for Rick and the Old Man if they ever have to rely on Cory's brains for their income.
oldgames
That said....... I do sometimes wonder how much of Rick's 'knowledge' is just BS also. There was one episode where he was showing a person that a coin was fake because it was cast instead of struck. He described the striking process as 'They have a die with one side of the coin and they put the coin blank on it, then a big guy takes a sledge hammer with the other side of the die on it and swings it as hard as he can so it makes both sides of the coin.' Ummmm.... Rick..... Wouldn't it be a lot easier if they put the blank on one side of the die and then put the other side of the die on top of it and then hit that with a hammer? (Preferably a mechanical hammer so you don't need the big guy with the sledgehammer). I'd think it would be pretty hard to swing a hammer with a die made on it and precisely hit the coin blank to strike the coin, but that's just my 'non-expert' opinion. tyranthraxus
There's a great documentary about a pawnshop in Edmonton's skid row that came out last year called Broke: http://docspace.ca/film/Broke Its pretty compelling, real down and outs come in to pawn wedding rings, marginal tools and stolen goods. All desperate people looking for a couple bucks. It happened after the film was made but the owner of the store was attacked in a robbery this past year.

lemoncurry
Pawn Stars is scripted. Well, the banter is ad libbed, but the deals are setups. That pinball machine the guy brought in in pieces, for instance: Supposedly they gave him $1000 for it, they took it to a restorer who charged them $3000 to fix it up, and they were happy because they said they could get $5000 for it. The actual reality, not the "reality show" reality, is the seller was an actor, the restorer owned the game all along, it was just disassembled and in fine condition to begin with, and it's worth $1000, tops, restored. There has been no end of grumbling about it on rec.games.pinball on Usenet. And don't get me started on the Coke machine that magically changed to a completely different model in restoration! recspecz
Wow... on Monday I'll be putting up an Atari 2600 4-switcher with 127 games, ~50% with pristine manuals, and they'll all be listed and itemized. Even the label-type will be described... and it only took about an hour to do the research off of AtariAge and compile the list. How lazy can people be ...
