Has anyone seen a higher price paid for a dead cart before ? If collectors put down the big $$ for Stadium Events or Air Raid do they pop it in their system and play it or do they display it where it will never get worn? Honestly I don't understand paying for $1k for a cart dead, alive or undead. So maybe the allure is just the plastic and label regardless if it works. A.J. Franzman
If the description is accurate and I'm understanding it correctly, it seems as if there is damage to one of the card edge connector "fingers". If that's correct and the only reason for the cartridge to fail to work, then yes, it's easily repaired. There is self-adhesive copper material sold for circuit board repairs. If the damage is merely a cut across a circuit track, it could even be bridged with just a dab of solder to fix it. On the other hand, if the ROM (or EPROM?) chip itself is dead, it could be replaced or reprogrammed -- a more technically involved and challenging repair, especially if it means needing to replace a mask ROM with an EPROM, but still feasible. A karate game could not have been played much (if at all) over the last 30 years as the game absolutely sucks! This seller was so full of BS you cant trust anything he says. He had a dead Mangia cart too which he got from the same source, which suggests bit rot for both these

CincYnoTi
Someone paid $1100 for the label. The insides probably will be "fixed" to be either NTSC or PAL as the new owner chooses. Were all K-Tel/Ultravision carts released as eproms? How much did the last NTSC Ultravision Karate sell for...$2000, $5000? The person with $1100 for this probably has another $50-100 available to have the cart repaired.

If it was as simple as wiping an pal eprom and replacing it with an ntsc rom, there would probably be a whole lot more ntsc karates out there... pinball22
Honestly I don't understand paying for $1k for a cart dead, alive or undead. I'd probably pay $1K for an actual undead cart.
the-topdog
I can see it if someone has a cart with a broken shell and they want to move their board into it. It would be worth the $1k just to have an unbroken cartridge... then they have a complete one of a much higher value. I have been known to pay upwards of $200 for an empty box for the same reason. pangasinan
The person who bought the dead cart is a well known reseller that is a member here who in his auctions makes outrageous claims that the auctioned item is one of only a few known to exist,so expect it for resale soon.
