Longhorn Engineer 7800 S-Video Mod Question

Can someone who has Longhorn Engineer's 7800 S-Video mod check and see if the text in Food Fight is messed up? The game plays just fine, but the text has some weird fuzzy issue going on and I'm wondering if it's just the rom or if the text used some special graphical technique that's not playing well with the mod. I also noticed a bit of graphical garbage in the upper right corner and lower right corner in Pac-Man Collection (under the score and under the stage fruit). Once again, not sure if this is the mod or the rom or possibly my LCD TV.

That font looks weird on the emulator too. The colours look too bright on your display. How does it look if you turn the brightness/contrast down?

I'll try that. It's an LCD TV so that may be part of the problem.

I have had all sorts of problems with LCD TV's even though the mods (8bitdomain and Longhorn) look perfect on CRT:?

When I get a chance I'll hook this up to a CRT TV and see if that helps. Like you said, LCD TVs do weird things to older pictures sometimes.

The letters have always looked fuzzy on my machine as well. This is with a simple video mod (custom, not Longhorn) and CRT. No other game is fuzzy on my 7800 as far as I can tell. Not sure why Food Fight is like that...

Ok so maybe it's just the normal output for Food Fight and I'm noticing it more because of the LCD TV? That would make sense as all the other games I tried played just fine.

that's exactly it.

 

although, as others have said, that screen is WAY too bright. Those letters should be red/orange. not bright yellow. might be the camera though.

I used my iPhone camera to take it so yeah it's probably the camera.

The funny thing is, this exact reason is why I prefer the easier 7800 composite mod to either Longhorn's or the 8-bit domain mod. In both of those, they applied some filtering to tighten up signal bleed, but it has an adverse effect on graphics like this, which were created for a softer CRT phosphor look, counting on a bit a blurring to fill out the empty spots.

 

the easy 7800 comp. mod still allows for a minimum of softness, but also still cleans up the picture considerably compared to RF. But these other mods, they almost clean up the picture too much, and giver certain games an unnatural jagged edged look.
