SlowCoder
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 170627842177 Please take a look at the question meomike asked me about accepting money orders. Am I correct that there's no way I could prove I received the money order if I accepted? Even stranger, the person bid on the item without first receiving a response from me. I'm hoping that he's capable of sending PayPal if he wins the auction. I've never dealt with this issue in the past, so am looking for a little knowledge from the more learned here. Why would you have to prove that you received the Money order? Looks like it is a US only auction so I assume he is in the US with a US shipping address. Personally, I would say yes a money order is fine if received within 5 business days and US Postal Money order only, no other type. You could then cash money order at the Post Office, no possibility of a scam as the Post office will know if it is real or not when you present it. Postal money orders cost the sender not you the receiver so no fees for you. The Postal Money order would also give him some protection if you didn't ship the item as he could then claim mail fraud. So use delivery confirmation or get proof of shipping if you take Postal Money orders.
atari181
I agree, I would Just take the Postal Money order. Up till the last fews years when Ebay has forced everyone to use PAYPAL I would recieve at least 50% of my payments this way, without any worry of The buyer knowing wether or not I actually recieved the money or not. With his feedback, I think you should go ahead and take it, you'll save the PP fees and at least you wont loose out on the sale.
coleconut
I would accept the money order for reasons already stated. Paypal wont get its grubhooks on a percentage of it, and there's protection for both parties in that if you dont get it and state so, the sender can followup with the P.O., they are all numbered. I've never had a problem.
Dino
Ditto. MOs are better for the seller
SlowCoder
Ok, well, this makes me feel a bit better. If he wins, I'll reconsider his proposal. Thank you all for your input, guys!
fmdof
i like MO's too, but I wouldn't accept them. It'll just piss ebay off, and dime to a dollar, he'll claim he sent it, but didn't, then give you negative feedback for not sending him the yahzee. tell him if he sends you an MO, to put delivery conf, or signature required so you know he sent it, and he'll know you received it. Just like kheffington said. If not, i see this as being a giant headache.
SlowCoder
meomike won, and based on your responses, I think I'm willing to allow a money order. I suppose he needs my mailing address? Never done it before.
AtariLeaf
Considering the way paypal screws over sellers, I'd prefer MO's at this point.
