Intracity shipping costs?

Any thoughts on "mandatory" shipping costs for items within the same city? I recently purchased an item on eBay and was required to pay $$ to have an item shipped to me even though I offered to pick up this item myself. The buyer did mention the "mandatory" shipping cost in the advertisement, and he did ship the item quickly as promised.

Is this a "fair" shipping cost?

Did the seller agree to let you pick it up? And if so, the seller *still* demanded that you pay the shipping cost? I think that's unreasonable and I'd just make him ship the damn thing to you if he's going to make you pay the shipping cost.

I've had a guy who was going to charge me half of the shipping if I picked it up. He came right out and told me that he uses the shipping to make a few bucks without paying Ebay.

 

Needless to say, I didn't bid on his item.

This just makes my bacon sizzle. Pisses me off like the guy I have been talking about on the other thread in tis topic.

 

Charging half price on shipping if you pick it up? Mandatory shipping charges? How about a mandatory kick in the ass for dumb ass things like that???

Yes, the ending price was high -- but 8-bit stuff is getting incredibly hard to find in Western Canada!

 

My only slight complaint (and certainly not worthy of negative feedback) with the entire transaction was that I had to wait for the package to arrive in the mail...and accept attendant risks shipping with Canada Post et. al. (I needed that disk drive!)
