Anyone know what the scoop is on this? Never saw this model before and a quick search on the net didn't reveal this particular revision either...

eBay Auction -- Item Number: 2208085683001?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=220808568300&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

It looks like a strange version of the Commodore 64C...maybe an early release or a prototype of some sort. Very cool! icon_thumbsup.gif

EDIT: I have seen the 64C with the dark keys before, but never with the rainbow badge.

A friend of mine who is a C64 expert enlightened me:

So, the Commodore 64C was released after the C128 came out. The 64C was just a C64 in a different case that looked more like the 128's design. The one in that auction, however, is an original C64 (the "breadbox" model)that was put into an aftermarket case to make it look like the 64C. Except the aftermarket product only replaced the case itself so the keys are still the wrong color.

So the manual in one of the photos shows what the C64c should really look like. This was just an aftermarket kit for it.

Thanks! An aftermarket case, huh? Seems strange it would have the rainbow C= logo and everything, unless it was produced by Commodore that is. In any event, I wonder who in the heck would have cared to "update" their breadbox that way back in the day? Seems like a totally frivolous idea to me. Did someone sell beige cases for all the old brown peripherals too? lmao

They must have peeled the badge off their old case.

Many 64C units were produced with the leftover keyboard stock from the original C64. Some people also replaced the keyboards when they broke with old C64 keyboards since they are interchangeable. I have seen the rainbow badges on them as well but never in that location, it is usually in the lower right.

This one is cool having an aftermarket case tho.
