5200 expansion port?

Not controller ports, I am am pretty sure with custom code and hardware, you can use the serial pins on the expansion port (12, 13, 14, 15). But it would be slower than creating a custom 8 bit protocol, that does exactly what you want it to do.

Would that just be enough for head-to-head networking like null-modem-cable networking for 2-player versus something like SIO-to-MIDI like XEGS MIDI Maze which supports 4-players?

When I purchased the 5200 back in 1982 I read anything and everything I could find about the system. The expansion port in the back was for a proposed keyboard that was supposed come out that would literally turn the 5200 into a computer, so essentially an Atari 800 without the floppy drive. I remember wanting that so much.
