Sega Genesis Wireless controller Question

Anywhere to find how this is done?

I've done that for my wired controller and it's working fine for both 2600 and 7800 mode.

This is an adapter so you don't need to mod the controller.

It should work too for the wireless controller.

Thanks. Any way to explain to someone not this technically advanced?

You first need to get the 5 component needed:

One 74HC4053: http://www.mouser.co...CJ5LyLgEXY2s%3d

Two 620 Ohm resistor: http://www.mouser.co...oCyWGhoufZ34%3d

One DB9 Male: http://www.mouser.co...%252bevKylkc%3d

One DB9 Female: http://www.mouser.co...z6SpRk1wMCuk%3d

On the schematic each line is a wire and they interconnect at connector or chip pin. Where they cross their is not connection excepted when you see a round black dot.

R1 and R2 are the resistor.

Vcc and GND are the power suply, so you need to connect each Vcc together. And connect all GND together.

If you never done this before I recommend using a small breadboard like this since it require no soldering:

You would only need in that case to solder a wire to each pin of each DB9 connector.

I recommend using 22 AWG cable with only one conductor:

I'm happy that someone is willing to build the adapter for the community! :D

Cause I'm too busy with university and work to find time to build and sell the stuff I design myself. :(

Personaly, I prefer to see all the component so I don't put any hood but I guess you could order those hood to give the adapter a more professional look:

I've built the adapter from the faq (sega pad adapter) here on this site and found it doesn't work with 6-button controllers, but works fine with 3-button controllers. I don't know about the one referenced in the above posts and 6-button pads.

Also, I don't think the sega wireless receiver will work at all without an adapter on the 7800, even as a single button controller, because it will need +5vdc on pin 5 and the atari supplies it on pin 7.

The wireless controller for sure work the same as the wired 6 button controller. With the exception that their is no "mode" button.

The problem might be that the select line (pin 7) is never pulled low as normal genesis game would do. So if the 6 button controller use that as some kind of clock to update it's output that could cause a problem. I know that the select pulse is use by compatible game to get the 3 additional button status.

If that the case those controller would be incompatible with the Master System, Power Base Converter and Atari.

The mode button on the wired 6 button controller is said to be use to put the controller in 3 button mode. So if you hold that button while powering the system the controller should work as a normal genesis pad and should work with SMS and Atari system.

Unfortunately the wireless version and some newer wired one don't have that button, so it's probably can't be put in compatibility mode.

Anyway I just buy an official SEGA 6 button controller with mode button on ebay. So in a week or so I update about it. If it doesn't work I will try to find what I can do about it.

I'd have given you one to further the research. I've got plenty of this stuff, just let me know.

Received my 6 button controller today (Model MK-1470 with mode button) and it's working fine. Don't even need to use the mode button at all.

Tried in 2600 mode and with a 7800 two button game. No issue at all.

One will have to check the model without mode button and the wireless one, but I'm pretty sure they are going to work too. Unless SEGA screwed something with those ;)
