oyamafamily
IMPROVEMENT - 146,620 - WOO HOOO!! As a tip, DON'T let Ms. Pac-Man eating the power pill early. Firstly, TRY to eat many dots as possible, because Ms. Pac-Man moves fast in the clear sections. FOCUS specially on Blinky (Red Ghost), which is always faster than other ghosts (note that the ghosts have the same behavior, but different speeds in 2600 version). Reserve at least 2 power pills for emergencies, specially on later levels. On Level 8 and all the subsequent stages (Random Fruits), AVOID eating the ghosts after eating each power pill. When the apple, pear or banana appears at the bottom of the screen, FOCUS CLOSELY on these bonus items. But DON'T BE PANIC if you lose these valuable fruits, because it's better than losing your life. And DON'T WORRY if the less valuable fruits appear (Pretzel, Orange, Strawberry and Cherries). The ghosts move slowly on the tunnels. After eating each power pill, the monsters always move to the corners. Use this to take your advantage, specially on later levels. The tunnels should be used with caution. On earlier levels (until Banana Stage), DON'T EAT all the dots before eating all the Power Pills. AVOID THE FOLLOWING DANGEROUS ZONES WHEN POSSIBLE: Red Maze: Long path (top of the maze) Blue Maze: Pathways located at the bottom Light Gray Maze: Sections at the top center and the bottom center Green Maze: Section above the ghost pen After clearing Level 8, the mazes will alternate between Light Gray and Green, and change for every board cleared. NE146
On Level 8 and all the subsequent stages (Random Fruits), AVOID eating the ghosts after eating each power pill. Yeah the 2600 version differs from the arcade in that the "random" fruit is going to show up 2x in the stage i.e. that is THE fruit for that stage. That wasn't the way in the arcade game where you could get a banana and then a cherry on the same stage for example. So that makes it cool if you get a banana stage as you know that's an extra 10,000 points Edited December 20, 2011 by NE146

PacChamp
Yeah the 2600 version differs from the arcade in that the "random" fruit is going to show up 2x in the stage i.e. that is THE fruit for that stage. That wasn't the way in the arcade game where you could get a banana and then a cherry on the same stage for example. So that makes it cool if you get a banana stage as you know that's an extra 10,000 points If you look at Oyama's high score emulation game you'll notice he's getting 3x and 4x the bananas per board after the 130,000 level. He has scored an absurd amount of his points on just the latter stages of the game, like over 140,000 points of his 200,000+!! Again, I nwant to reiterate that he is a fine retro player...he might be the best Atari player in the world, and I usually vote yes for his videos for the high score club...but this seems a little suspicious to me, like some sort of manipulation of the Stella engine. Can anybody explain this to me?!
