keoni29
Hey, I just bought a box full of consoles, adapters and joysticks. A mega drive adapter I was going to sell to a customer appeared to be faulty. My question is: Is it worth fixing it? Are there known issues with these kinds of adapters?
sqoon
Mega Drive adapter of what type? AC? Power Base Converter for SMS games? Game Genie?
keoni29
Indeed an AC power adapter.
Rex Dart
It's probably not worth attempting. Do you have a multimeter or voltmeter?
keoni29
It's probably not worth attempting. Do you have a multimeter or voltmeter? I have both those and an oscilliscope, but I don't have the right inverted HEX bit required to open it up, so I wonder if its worth buying one (of course I will use it to open other sega hardware in the future if it's a sega-standard)
keoni29
Hey I just found a really cheap megadrive on the internet, but it also has a broken ac adapter. That means I will have two broken ones and it might be worth buying a hex bit.
jferio
For me, it's really not worth fixing these. There was a period of time here in Denver, Colorado, USA, that I was able to "stock up" on spares... the spares have now been all assigned to various consoles. It just depends on whether or not it's worth the money to buy a power brick of the correct ratings, and the tip to go into the system. For the record, Master System, MegaCD and Megadrive Model 1 supplies are interchangable. Megadrive Model 2 and Game Gear supplies are also identical.
