Marius
Hi Darklord! Yes... those people from Lantronix are really the BEST. I really like support from Lantronix; they are always friendly, and they really try to give the best support there is. Not everything is always possible, and ofcourse it is a commercial business, but their support is awesome indeed. One more thing, I'm going to mail you the file you requested in five minutes, so stay tuned... (I will send this on atariage, since I'm not sure I have your e-mail address) Greetz m. +Stephen
I will try to get my MSS-100 server configured and running this evening. I will also test the UDS-10 on my 130XE.
Marius
@Stephen The MSS-100 is another piece of cake. If you need help, please let me know. I have had very good results with the MSS100. My BBS is using them. Greetz M.

+DarkLord
Okay, just because...just for the fun of it...just because its a random universe, I swapped out the UDS10 for the UDS1100 that I had been using on the Mega ST4 that runs DarkForce. Just now, I logged in using Hyperterminal on a Winbox and unlike before, there were no "j'"s. So Stephen, call in if you don't mind and let me know what you get now. I'm getting ready to hook the UDS1100 up to the STacy now and see what it does when it calls in to the UDS10. I'm betting the handshaking problem will still be there and I'll get those pesky "j'"s. If it does, then that means, for what ever reasons or settings, the UDS1100 is the problem. Be back in a bit....
+DarkLord
Wow, so far I've been unable to get the UDS1100 to call in and connect period. It dials out, connects to the UDS10/Darkforce, then when it would normally show the Press ASCII Return message, it scrolls Press ASCII Return like 10 or 15 times, that you can't interrupt by pressing <enter>, then finally says no carrier. Be back in a bit...
+DarkLord
Okay, I called Marius's BBS with the UDS1100 hooked up to my STacy. I was able to connect, but every letter I typed in was doubled. I tried various settings, echo on off, linefeeds on/off, I'm set to 19200, 8N1, full duplex so I'm not sure what's going on there. The bottom line so far is that I'm just not having any luck with the UDS1100. I've tried various settings with it for calling out now, and so far no luck. I'm really looking forward to the MSS100 getting here, so I can try it out and see its results. I'm also *very* interested in seeing what results Stephen and Marius gets, now that my UDS10 is setup for incoming calls with my BBS. thgill
Did you get one of those cheap MSS100's off eBay? I am going to order one here soon and try it on my STe. Need that and a serial cable.

Yes, I did. Some guy in Ohio, MSS100 with the AC adaptor, shipped for $34.99. I think he had 30+ units for sale. Can't wait to get it here and try it with my STacy. That's a pretty good deal. +DarkLord
It works great! No more j characters. Awesome, good news. But now...I gotta ask, what was it about the UDS1100 that I couldn't get set right? I fully agree with Marius and Mike from Lantronix that it's almost surely a handshaking problem, but what? So at this point, I'd have to NOT recommend the UDS1100 for Atari computers, either for BBS use or telnet use. Still waiting on the MSS100 so I can see how it does... I'll report back. Gotta work the next 2 days so hopefully it'll get here about the time I'm off again. Everyone have a great Memorial Day, BTW!
+DarkLord
Just thought I'd add this, I was worried about the RAW vs TELNET modes, so I logged on to DarkForce this afternoon and did a zmodem download. It worked fine, no problems. This was using ztelnet with bash under Kubuntu linux.

+DarkLord
Okay, I've got some good news to report. I'm not really sure what the difference is, but I logged into the UDS1100 hooked up to my Atari STacy, via the web interface and applied the factory defaults, then changed only the following: baud rate - bumped up to 19200 telnet password connect mode - changed from C0 to D6 After that, I was able to call Darkforce and Marius's BBS with no problems at all. No funky letters, no doubled letters, no multiple Press ASCII return messages that wouldn't respond to a keypress and even backspace works like its supposed to! I successfully used TAZ, ANSITerm, and STalker. So I'm not sure what I setting I had apparently mangled, but applying the factory defaults and only changing what I absolutely had to change worked. Although I'd dearly love to know what setting it was that was causing all the problems! Anyway, just thought I'd let everyone know that everything seems to be working now, at least for the moment. Here are the settings I'm using with the UDS1100 now, for calling other BBS's via telnet (in case anyone else needs them): *** Lantronix UDS1100 Device Server *** MAC address XXXXXXXXXXXXXX Software version V6.6.0.1 (080808) Password :---- Press Enter for Setup Mode *** basic parameters Hardware: Ethernet TPI IP addr 192.168.1.102, gateway 192.168.1.1,netmask 255.255.255.0 DNS Server not set Telnet config password set *** Security SNMP is enabled SNMP Community Name: public Telnet Setup is enabled TFTP Download is enabled Port 77FEh is enabled Web Server is enabled Web Setup is enabled ECHO is disabled Enhanced Password is disabled *** Channel 1 Baudrate 19200, I/F Mode 4C, Flow 00 Port 10001 Connect Mode : D6 Send '+++' in Modem Mode enabled Show IP addr after 'RING' enabled Auto increment source port disabled Remote IP Adr: --- none ---, Port 00000 Disconn Mode : 00 Flush Mode : 00 *** Expert TCP Keepalive : 45s ARP cache timeout: 600s Monitor Mode @ bootup : enabled HTTP Port Number : 80 MTU Size: 1400 Alternate MAC: disabled Ethernet connection type: auto-negotiate
+DarkLord
Got the MSS100 in today, I'll try it out here after the kids all go to sleep and report back. EDIT: Ah, never mind. The MSS100 seems to be quite a bit different than the UDS's I'm used to. First off, the power supply for it is only 5v, not 9-30 like the UDSs. I can get around that, I've got a couple of those universal/adjustable power supplies. But, it's also got a different serial port connector, and I don't have a cable for that. I've got some adaptors, but they appear to to not be doing the job. Oh well, something for another day when I've got the correct cable. +DarkLord
Didn't the MSS100 come with a psu? The listing on eBay said it did. Yep, it did come with a power supply. A 12v power supply.
+DarkLord
I got lucky and won the ebay auction for 5 UDS10's. Got them in today. No power supplies, but for approx. $68 delivered, I'm not going to complain. One of those "pig in a poke" purchases, bought "as is". I didn't have time to put each one through its paces, but I did hook up a power supply, LAN cable, etc, and they all powered up OK and recognized the network and appeared to be receiving packets. So I've got the working UDS10 on my BBS, the UDS1100 is now working correctly with my STacy for telnetting out, and I've got 5 UDS10's and MSS100 for backup. Can't have too many! thgill
Yep, it did come with a power supply. A 12v power supply. lol so the seller included the wrong psu? Want to sell one of those spare UDS10's?

Yep, only thing I can figure out. Just probably grabbed the wrong one from a stack, I'd imagine. Of course, the MSS100 might have fooled him too - it's the only Lantronix device I've seen so far that requires 5v. My UDS1100 and the UDS10's all require 9v-30. Hmm, give me some time to actually try each UDS10 and see how many are *fully* working. If most of them work, I guess I'd let -1- go.
