GodzillaIsMyCopilot
... I can't start half the games I own on my 7800 Jr. Yars Revenge & Superman are fine, but, with Venture, GI Joe Cobra Strike, and others, I'm jsut stuck on the startup screen. I've tried all the buttons, and nothing seems to work. I even opened the thing up, and it looks as clean as a whistle in there. Tell me I'm missing something obvious. +Gemintronic
Try a different joystick?
GodzillaIsMyCopilot
My test games work with both my wireless 2600 controllers and a sega genesis controller. I doubt the controller is the issue. Is there a button I am supposed to press on the console that I am somehow missing? It's been awhile. Stun Runner 87
Cool. I didn't know atari came out with an Atari 7800JR. I must of missed it. Is it a smaller version of the 7800? Must be like a prototype that was never released. I believe that the 2600 had a junior. Edited August 30, 2012 by Stun Runner

GodzillaIsMyCopilot
LoL, I was just trolling you for a second. Wouldn't you have been embarrassed if, by some miracle, I actually HAD a 7800 jr.? Stranger things have happened... but, I paid good money to forget those things. ...where are my eyebrows?! Atariman
To answer the original question (regarding the 2600, anyway)... It sounds like you are neglecting to press the Reset switch.

Stun Runner 87
I think maybe either you need to buy a new 7800 or new cartridges.....I guess.
+Gemintronic
The second joystick port on my Jr. is going unresponsive. I wish I knew of a good technique to get contact cleaner in there without damaging the plastic. I mention this because I still think the OP problem may have something joystick/input related. If it's not the joystick then maybe the joystick connector on the Jr.
GodzillaIsMyCopilot
Uh... all the games that start with a jostick button press illustrate that the games play beautifully. It has to be the reset switch. I need to fix the reset switch.
