xnview says one of those has 18 unique colors.

This one has 14 colors that is a good start, and I like very much the mockup.

I'm interested in making a game out of this, but to start there must be at least a full animation of the main character and a full view (not important if only in WIP) of the first level background (that I suppose should scroll).

 

With these we can work together to optimize the palette (there maust be a fixed part, a variable part depending on different levels or special segments of one level, and if possible some free colors (at least one) I can use for special effects (e.g. flashing lights). In my experience on the lynx the coder and the GFX artist should always work together.

True, must have happened during the export. Attached are both with indexed colours and in 160 x 102 px.
