Rockin' Kat
just got this in my email from a2central.com. I have no personal involvement in this, but after seeing they have Atari stuff I thought it'd be pertinent here... If it's so, that's not very nice. Stolen gear being sold on eBay? Goochman
Tough situation - the guy obviously fell behind on rent which puts stress on the landlord who also has to pay taxes/mortgage on property - at some point if back rent is not paid then the goods transfer to the landlord. That's my question. Yes this sucks and is horrible, but does it count as stolen merchandise? My understanding is that when you don't pay your storage fee you lose your stuff and the landlord can do whatever they want with it. I'm not sure if there are exemptions or not or if there's a grace period where you can pay the back fees or what.
nukeshed
I can't argue the tenant's side of things, because I have never (thankfully, *knock*) been in that situation. When a roommate of mine was in this situation (Full Disclosure, Im in Ontario, Canada, ymmv), our landlord told myself and my wife that after 60 days it was the landlord's property, and if we wanted the room back, all we had to do was deal with the crap in the room. Got myself a DS >_> Really sucks to be the guy on losing end though, and for what it is worth, it doesn't seem (or I couldn't find) any ebay auctions under the user name. +Gemintronic
A friend of a friend mis-managed his online video game storefront. Basically skipping out on paying his one employee and rent for many months. I don't like the idea of a landlord claiming ownership of stuff.. but, I also don't like the idea of people getting away with intentionally shorting on payments. Eventually someone has to pay the Piper.
