Jinks
Ok with the upcoming xm that has a sio port will the future be in sio to pc and all that jazz like the a8's? With the right software is this possible? If so that would really be the big seperation and sell point for the xm compared to what other consoles have to offer. u1mb hacks?.graphics cards? just dreaming ....with the maria chip it would be very interesting!!! Would anyone who knows their stuff care to give some insight on any of these probablities? To me it is hard to believe no one has mentioned this yet. But maybe its dumb to a intelligent tech guy.. The Usotsuki
Provided software is developed, theoretically it should be doable.
+wood_jl
What would be really cool is some sort of SIO2PC/Sdrive/SIO2SD capability. I suppose this would require a custom cartridge to give it some ROM to be compatible with those devices, though.
The Usotsuki
Of course. I'm not a very good coder but a "DOS cartridge" is something I've had on my mind.
xxl
equip a7800 about POKEY. you can then connect a7800 directly to devices such as SIO2SD. it's easy to write lib. like 1KB xB - http://xxl.atari.pl/?p=1076 that allows use Atari DOS/MyDOS filesystem to load & store files. 31336haxx0r
You'd just need some sort of loader cartridge that gets the data from the SD card, stores them in its internal RAM and then switches over. It would have been more elegant to have this feature implemented directly into the XM's CPLD. But I think Curt is lucky when those things are shipped and he doesn't have to add anything new...
