*UPDATED*

I figure this would be a good place to post some graphics tools I use.

I use a sprite editor / animation tool designed for the C64 Called Spritepad

http://www.subchristsoftware.com/spritepad.htm

I has a great on-the-fly animation tool

I wrote an Excel spreadsheet to convert it's export format to Batari Basic format

I will only convert the first line of 8 sprites

Example with pacmania sprites I've been working on:

post-45682-0-11279400-1499883366_thumb.png

It requires "Muti-colour mode" & sprites to be all white with black transparency -OR- each horizontal line to have 1 color out of the 4 possible

If more than 1 color per line is used, the sprite will error out on converting

Export the sprite data to asm format:

open spreadsheet, goto data tab, click refresh all, choose the exported asm text file.

copy and paste the generated sprite listings and/or color codes into batari code

Works great for Visual Batari Basic!

NEW VER: Spritepad's export generates a placeholder for color, not the actual color, so I chose Grayscale code (finish color editing in Visual Batari Basic :) :

Written with Excel 2007 (will it work in OpenOffice?)

old ver: spr-asm to batari.zip

NEW VER: (Sprite displayed, partial color support):

spr-asm to batari 071217.zip

Let me know what you guys think.

Seems like a lot of extra work. VbB can't show all of the frames at once like the old sprite editors I used to use back in the 1980s, but it will let you do this:

randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-batari-basic-vbb.html#creatinganimations

and this:

randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-batari-basic-vbb.html#spriteanimator

I'd like to have an online version of VbB with various improvements so people with any kind of computer can use it.

I needed something different for artistic pupose's lol.

VbB's mouse use in drawing is kinda quirky.

I needed something with a more "fluid" sketch-like feel ; and it delivers on that.

If somebody makes an online VbB-style tool one of these days, maybe they can include whatever you like about that program. If you get a chance, be sure to post the things that you'd want to have in a new online sprite making tool.

Maybe something similar to the web site below, but made for batari Basic:
