Tempest
Do they even make a 20" TV with S-video? I went all over today looking for a small S-Video equipped TV for my Atari 1200XL (now with a S-Video cable) and I couldn't find one! It seems like nothing smaller than a 24" has S-Video and those are all $250+. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe I should just use Composite instead? Too bad I can't just use a monitor... +Mitch
Don't you have an old Commodore monitor? It will play S-Video. Mitch http://atari7800.atari.org

Gunstar
Don't you have an old Commodore monitor? It will play S-Video. Mitchhttp://atari7800.atari.org Trouble is, I believe, he went through the trouble of making a 5-pin DIN (1200xl plug) to S-video mini-din cable, instead of just buying the cable from B&C, that I suggested numerous times, that has the 5-pin Din to 4-RCA jacks that is compatible with the Commodore monitor OR standard composite input...plus, it's EXTREMLY easy to then make a female(x2) RCA to S-video mini din adapter for this cable (and still use the RCA audio on the original cable), that will make it compatible with S-video mini-dins on TV's... I've mentioned this a MILLION times on this site, it's what I did, cost me $15 and 10 minutes to make the adapter (RCAtoS-video mini-din) out of scrap cables, and I can connect to Commodore, composite AND S-video inputs with audio! But does anyone ever listen?

+Sauron
Tempest, did you try looking at Walmart? I believe I've seen several TVs there that are 20" or less that have S-Video inputs. Most TVs there are usually priced decently, although a lot of them are the "lower" name brands like Apex.
Tempest
Sorry, I was just trying to be helpful. No not you! I'm talking about Gunstar... Grr... Tempest, did you try looking at Walmart? No I didn't, Walmart was the one place I didn't go today. I'll try that tomorrow. Tempest

Gunstar
Gunstar doesn't know as much as he thinks...it's spelled "Nicholson". Is it? I Knew I had misspelled it, but I couldn't remember the correct spelling, so I just left it until I found the right one...then I forgot about it. Although Nicholson doesn't look right to me either, but I'll take your word for it. Sorry Tempest, I wasn't trying to be a "know it all," it's just that I have mentioned it a LOT and it's very simple and cheap, and more flexible. I just get frustrated once in a while when you tell people a great solution to a problem, but it seems like nobody listens...of course if S-video is all you need, that's fine, but from your posts, it seems like it was one big headache for you to get it completed, and that's why I pretty much steared clear of offering help to you when you were asking, because you did it the hard way...after I'd told of an easy way many times when people had asked... Oh, and same to you! (the "cram it" part)
Clint Thompson
CPUWIZ.... Wow, that's a pretty nice TV for the price I may just have to go out and pick me up one! Decent size too.... oppose to the 13" Clint Thompson

Decent size too.... oppose to the 13" Oh, thanks a lot Clint, you got me to click and now I want one. Grumble, grumble Someone said those Commdore 1702 monitors are very tolerant of out-of-spec video signals though. I wonder if one of my older systems would cause trouble if I didn't use a 1702. Besides my main 1702 was only $25 from a Goodwill, the backup was only $15, wahhh!
Tempest
TV quest solved! I ended up picking up a nice 20" RCA flat screen for $190 at Walmart. They had an 20" flat screen APEX there for $178 but I'm not sure about the quality and I know RCA is a decent name. Tempest
