Algus
Wondering how this thing will hold up compared to the Ouya. I like the form factor and controller design though I suppose it remains to be seen how the controller rates compared to Ouya. For those of us talking about the Ouya as an emulation box, GameStick could be a better solution. Plus it's cheaper.
godslabrat
Worth watching. The past two years have been weird... it wasn't that long ago that emulation on a TV meant a crap computer with a TV-out. Now you have Ouya, Gamestick, Retron5 and original hardware + Flashcarts. So many products that do almost, but not quite, the same thing. I'm really interested in seeing how this pans out.
Taskmaster99
Picked up my Ouya today and preordered the Game Stick. Looking forward to this little system.
Algus
You're getting both? I'd be really interested if you posted a comparison once the GameStick comes out. I was thinking of getting an Ouya but now I'm kind of in wait and see mode because I think the GameStick might be more in line with what I'd like to have.

Algus
Worth noting the Ouya has better specs but GameStick is super portable. The stick can slide into the controller for storage and the case is basically a controller holder. Be way less trouble for me sharing retro gaming with my buds. The accessories look snazzy (dock is mucho bueno imo) and the advertised 40 hour battery sounds good, though could be an issue as the device ages. Worried about the controller and whether side loading is an issue though. GameStick doesn't have as much coverage as Ouya for some reason despite being a very similar concept.
Falconhood
I have to educate myself on 3 different systems in a HURRY, and see which is best for me. But, it sounds like Retcon is nothing like these 2, and these two are competing with each other. Where can I get more info on the Stick? Googling OUYA is easy, but "Stick" gets too many responses that have nothing to do with it.

Googling OUYA is easy, but "Stick" gets too many responses that have nothing to do with it. There is Ouya and the rest are generic Android. Meaning, while Android IS the foundation for Ouya it tries to be an integrated platform to make games easy for developers and easy for the gamer. Anything else is just a joystick/tablet/cellphone/feather duster running Android.
Algus
JW theloon can you elaborate? GameStick app store looks quite nice from pics and reminds me of 360 firmware. Does Ouya do more on their end to make development easy? I know that an Ouya can be used as a devkit. So GameStick devs would be forced to build or port apps the traditional way? Or is there more to it? I know you dev for this stuff so I am curious lol I'm really liking the GameStick from what I've seen so far but if it ends up dying off quick then all I have is a pocket emulator with no new games. That'd be disappointing in the long run I think.
Falconhood
I want something very open-ended. The Apple stuff i enjoy for WHAT IT DOES is great, but no fun for an old hacker like I used to be.
+Gemintronic
Well, at a basic level all these things run Android. Some have their own "stores" and some use Google Market. Android is to gaming/cellphone/tablets what Windows is to a PC. Your experience with nVidias $300 dollar device is going to basically be the same as any other Chinese Fly-By-Night $100 dollar unit with the same specs. Nothing wrong with that. It is what it is. Ouya is trying to go beyond just another Appz Store. It's creating an ecosystem where more indie games can thrive. They actually fronted devkits and hardware to game creation software makers so that you and I can affordably develop. Also, nVidia and Asian Android clone makers are only in it for now. It's a fad. Ouya is what Ouya does. Now and later. UPDATE: Yes, I am a fanboi for Ouya currently. It's not perfect, but I like the idea behind it. I'm willing to give it a shot. Give the big median value finger to the game$ industry.
mimo
MK808, Finless Bob 1.7c firmware, xbox 360 wireless controller and dongle does me just fine (until I can afford a quad core TV stick )

You see, cheap arse Android sticks can be had for under $40 - 50 bucks. As long as you know what you're getting into it's a damn good set up! madmax2069
Much rather have my ouya then just another android stick.
+Gemintronic
Much rather have my ouya then just another android stick. This is also true. It's good to be a gamer today. So many choices. You can go cheap $40-$50 or go cheap with the Ouya at $100+ Everyone freakin' wins! =) UPDATE: Of course, you could go $30 dollars like me and buy a Coleco Gemini at a classic game expo
JamesD
I have an Android stick I planned on using as an XBMC Media Center... the software needs a little work yet but it's getting there. I planned on using it for Android gaming as well but I don't have a game controller for it yet. WiFi reception is kinda weak but the reviews I'm read seem to indicate that is a common issue. I also just received the Coolship Android based PC from the kickstarter project I posted about a while back. It arrived last week and I haven't had much time to mess with it yet. I'm torn between using it as a dedicated M.E.S.S. system or for Android development.
toptenmaterial
@TheLoon: Aside from being a developer of Ouya, are you pushing/endorsing it because of what you see as a good business ethic (fronting the dev kits, etc)? I know that the selection of Ouya games is hardly there yet... but you are making an investment in the type of future that you'd like gaming to have, right? For the record I'm with you. +swlovinist
I purchased the OUYA, but am interested in eventually getting a Gamestick. I really think that as processors progress, these consoles can be a nice alternative on a budget. Heres to indie gaming and multiple choices for the consumer
cimerians
This seems pretty cool too but I'm gonna stick with the Ouya for a bit. Will be keeping an eye on this.
Algus
I see, so you're thinking GameStick would be a bad buy overall when there are other (cheaper) alternatives? I do like the form factor though so I would be willing to spend extra for that, with the controller being a big question mark for me though. It is supposed to support any bluetooth controller but I don't see the point if you're just going to use a different controller with it (outside of already having some so not needing to buy as many GameStick controllers for multiplayer)

I spent a little more for a stick in a metal case but it's really not necessary. <edit> Just be aware that some sticks have less storage than others or might be missing bluetooth. Falconhood
$40 + $25? why not just pay $79.99 and be done? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWmOTge60Kg thanks for telling me it's called GAME Stick, that is the game changer, now I'm able to find information when The Stick didn't get me anywhere http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayKBm4GIDGo oh, and this guy is insane.. JamesD
$40 + $25? why not just pay $79.99 and be done? Because $65 costs less and the controller feels more like a Playstation or XBOX controller? Edited June 27, 2013 by JamesD
