Shrinkwrapped games

Recommended Posts

I have had delivered 6 games I got off ebay. To my surprize they are all shrikwrapped and brand new.

Do I open them or do I not?

Games are as follows and all are Pal so rarity is hard to know

#1 XEVIOUS

#2 HAT TRICK

#3 COMMANDO

#4 CHOPLIFTER

#5 SUPER HUEY-IX

#6 NINJA GOLF

I have lots of 2500 games and only ASTEROIDS built in on my 7800... So I really want to see what it can do.... but from a collecting point of view the're more valuable sealed......maybe I should buy the same titles again on ebay (if I can find them!)

What do you guys think?

Not that my opinion counts....but this is the way I look at these kinda things.

They are not making them anymore...so, what is left in "mint in box" condition is what is left. If you are a collector, then this probably means a lot to you...if you can pick up the same games on ebay again cheap and already open...you don't have to be very picky about cart condition because you already have the ones in the box.

I'd leave them in the box if it were me....but then again nothing like the feeling of breaking open a new game...lol.

In order to ensure the box's condition, I remove shrinkwrap. It's basically useless and as long as the box holds the game and it's in good shape, that's all that matters to me.

I have some boxes in terrible shape that I've managed to repair a bit so they at least hold the game and manual.

Besides, shrinkwrap warps the boxes over time..another reason to ditch it. If you prefer to keep it, at least cut a hole at the top to all air to flow inside.

Well PAL Commando is not quite as rare as the NTSC. You should just

rip them open. I got 15 MISB games and I opened all but a couple. The

few I didn't were really crappy games like Jinks and some light gun games

that I knew I just wasn't going to play. The best part was getting several

of those nice Atari posters/catalogue.

I'm one of those nuts with shrink wrapped copies of everything for the 7800 as well as play copies. I wouldn't open them, especially since getting play copies of most of those games isn't too tough. Besides, if you don't collect shrinkwrapped, it's too easy to complete your collection, what with the rather small library of games.

Eric you are nuts ;) But that is a good point. If you want to collect

shrinkwrapped games then I suppose holding onto them would be a

good idea. But Xevious and Hat Trick are ultra common, its as easy to get

those sealed as loose. Don't keep them sealed if you think they are going

to be more collectable and valuable because those games just aren't

ever going to be.

That's exactly why I just ripped open my 5200 Berzerk. The shrinkwrap was damaging the box to the point "airing it" wouldn't have helped any more, and since it's such a common game I figured I would rather take it out and play it since I didn't have any loose copies. :D
