Peter G
I decided to start experimenting with the music for my game, and I'm running into a problem. I try to start the music and sound editor under the VBB menu, and it refuses to do so, saying something is missing. I do a quick search, and find the recommendation to put in a fresh sound file. I download VisualbB.soundlib.dll and put it in the VBB folder. Still nothing. Here's the error message I get: ************** Exception Text ************** System.IO.FileNotFoundException: The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) at VisualbB.SoundLib.vbBSoundLib..ctor() at VisualbB.DialogMusic..ctor() at VisualbB.mainIDE.MusicEditorToolStripMenuItem_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.RaiseEvent(Object key, EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripMenuItem.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.HandleClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.HandleMouseUp(MouseEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.FireEventInteractive(EventArgs e, ToolStripItemEventType met) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.FireEvent(EventArgs e, ToolStripItemEventType met) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mea) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripDropDown.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mea) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ScrollableControl.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripDropDown.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) ************** Loaded Assemblies ************** mscorlib Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3643 (GDR.050727-3600) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727/mscorlib.dll ---------------------------------------- VisualbB Assembly Version: 1.0.0.554 Win32 Version: 1.0.0.554 CodeBase: file:///C:/Atari2600/VisualbB_1/VisualbB.exe ---------------------------------------- Microsoft.VisualBasic Assembly Version: 8.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 8.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/Microsoft.VisualBasic/8.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll ---------------------------------------- System Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3644 (GDR.050727-3600) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Windows.Forms Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3645 (GDR.050727-3600) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Windows.Forms/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Windows.Forms.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Drawing Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3644 (GDR.050727-3600) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Drawing/2.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/System.Drawing.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Runtime.Remoting Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Runtime.Remoting/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Runtime.Remoting.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Configuration Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Configuration/2.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/System.Configuration.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Xml Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3082 (QFE.050727-3000) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Xml/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Xml.dll ---------------------------------------- VisualbB.SoundLib Assembly Version: 1.0.0.1 Win32 Version: 1.0.0.1 CodeBase: file:///C:/Atari2600/VisualbB_1/VisualbB.SoundLib.DLL ---------------------------------------- Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? jwierer
Probably a version mismatch. The only other time I saw something like that was a guy running Windows under virtualization. I would create a new folder and try this version in my blog. I think it's the latest I've posted. http://atariage.com/forums/blog/302/entry-9759-small-update-for-visualbb/ -Jeff
joelm
I have the same problem with the same error message. I tried downloading the latest builds/versions from the links posted and I still get the same error. Perhaps there is something deeper at work (or not) here. +Random Terrain
This might be a stupid question, but you guys did remember to unzip it, right?
jwierer
Peter G sent me a zipped copy of his folder. It worked fine on my machine so it's something local that is blocking it. Never figured out what it was. -Jeff

joelm
I just tried running it as an administrator and no dice. I am running Windows 7 perhaps there is some connection there. I'm not even sure what the program looks like, the Music and Sound Editor has actually never worked for me, no matter which build of Visual bB I had at the time, it has always come up with an error code. Did you try compatibility mode with different Windows versions such as XP to see if that would make it work?
joelm
I tested it with XP Service Pack 2 & 3 and Windows 2000 - No dice. None of the Vistas work either. Edited October 7, 2013 by joelm
+Random Terrain
I wonder if this post would help: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/207058-vbb-music-and-sound-editor-problem/?p=2668919 To fix his problem with the Music and Sound Editor, he had to install the SDK (whatever that is). jwierer
I run Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I've never had to use compatibility mode. Zip up you directory and PM it to me. I can at least confirm that it's something unique to your machine. -Jeff
