+grips03
I'm getting some corrupt graphics. Its always the same objects like the mule in the intro screen for MULE. But some other games have this too, such as Ixion. Many games don't have this issue. All games are being played off Atarmax SD cart.
danwinslow
Graphics memory is kept in RAM. If your RAM was bad, you'd likely see more trouble than this. This almost looks like a monitor problem of some sort, only showing up in certain resolutions perhaps.
foft
I guess the MULE is a pmg (hardware sprite). If so could be a GTIA problem maybe. ANTIC does dma to fetch the data for these once per scanline. GTIA temporarily stores this data then displays at the specified horizontal position. +grips03
replacing the 40 pin IC below fixed the issue. C014806-12 11151-12 8307 aka 6502 cpu

danwinslow
A bad CPU? I wuold have expected it would do more bad stuff than just mess up a particular game's graphics, thats interesting.
+grips03
I started with the memory ICs and worked towards the right, swapping known good parts from a spare 5200, graphics first cleared up when I swapped the cpu, I swapped back and forth a couple of times and it was cpu every time
boxpressed
Do you have the Diagnostic Cart rom for the 5200? I don't have an SD multicart, but my 128-in-1 multicart has it.

Lynxpro
This is a crazy question but I thought I'd ask it nonetheless since I've seen several videos on YouTube from A8 owners that have done this...have any 5200 owners on AA replaced the 6502 with a WDC 65816 CPU? foft
Curious - does the bad cpu pass the 5200 acid test? I guess the MULE port doesn't use any illegal opcodes?!
