Atari 7800 b&w

hey guys,

 

just got an atari 7800 off of ebay. however it only displays the games in black and white. I've tried it with the built-in asteroids, some 2600 games along with different rf cables.

 

one thing i have noticed, which is probably the cause of the problem, is the channel switch is missing completely. seen here: http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk117/danp031/IMG_0607_zps3dbac944.jpg

 

i have contacted the seller about a refund, but i'd like to keep it if it's an easy fix. any help is appreciated.

It sounds like a PAL 7800. Are you in the US or in Europe?

ah, forgot to mention. yes it's PAL and i live in the UK. The games are PAL also.

If the console is a PAL-I model (for UK market) it might lack the channel select switch from the factory. PAL-I versions of 2600 consoles only output on channel UHF 36 and are not switchable so it might be the same for the 7800.

There are 2 pots on the board to adjust the colors (one for 7800 games and the other for 2600 ones). If they are out of tune the resulting image will be in B&W. Even if it's unlikely that both went out of tune, it's worth checking.

just had a go at adjusting the pots. unfortunately neither one seems to have any effect. any other ideas?
