What do you think of a 5200 digital control pad?

Base controller is black Sega Saturn with the following button mappings:

Start = Start

Left button = *

Right button = #

A=side button 1

B=side button 2

C=keypad 1

X=keypad ??

Y=Start

Z=Reset

It would have db15 port and plug directly into the Atari 5200

Why duplicate the Start button on two keys?

How about:

Start = Start

A = Side Button 1

B = Side Button 2

C = Reset

X = Keypad 1

Y = Keypad 2

Z =Keypad 3

R Shoulder = #

L Shoulder = *

This would work for difficulty select on most games. It groups the top three keypad keys together for Countermeasure, and also allows simple difficulty selection in Defender. I'm not crazy about the Reset button on the C button, but I think it's better to have Start be Start and the shoulders by the star and pound keys.

I honestly hardly ever use pause, so not having that button available isn't that big of a deal.

meant to type:

Start = Start

A = Side Button 1

B = Side Button 2

C = Pause

X = Keypad 1

Y = Keypad 5 <---anything better?

Z=Reset

R Shoulder = #

L Shoulder = *

If a shift key is an option, how about this?

Start = Start

A = Side button 1

B = Side Button 2

C = Shift button only

X= keypad 1

Y = keypad 2

Z = keypad 3

L shoulder = *

R shoulder = #

C + L shoulder = Pause

C + R shoulder = Reset

C + X = keypad 4

C + Y = keypad 5

C + Z = keypad 6

This makes Pause and Reset harder to hit by accident. It also allows 4-6 keys to be used. Also, in terms of control intuition, the C button is always shift, the X/Y/Z keys are always numbers, and the shoulders are always special functions.

I like this setup.

I don't see why it would not be possible.

Do you like the Sega Saturn pad, or should I use Super Nintendo or something else?
