pjduplooy
Are there still any development done on PC99? (Would like to see speech lol) How often is the Cyc disc updated? What contents on the disc is not available on the internet? (I dont want to spend a lot of South African currency if most if not all content is publicly available - 1$ is almost 11 Rand)
+acadiel
Around 2003, Mike Wright did show a Windows prototype with speech. However, since then, I believe he has had health problems and has dropped out of active participation in the community. He will still sell/service the DOS version, but that's about it. Someone want to go in and make an offer for CADD's PC99 assets with me? If anything, to get the source into hands of people like MIchael Zapf, Tursi, Fred Kaal, etc.
+Lee Stewart
The Cyc is continuously updated. Two people ordering The Cyc a week apart might well get different editions because they burn it from the current data just before they send it out. Also, any correspondence I have had with (the) Wright(s) regarding inclusion of my TI Forth Manual editions and fbForth files has been with V. W.(Wright?). I do not know this person's first name; but, because s/he uses the same e-mail address and signs "VW", I am guessing a family relationship and that the 'W' stands for "Wright". The Cyc is meticulously edited to insure accuracy. Though it is really inexpensive for the invaluable information it contains, you cannot get it unless you also own PC99. ...lee

And yes, they are still adding files and let you do a diff to get a new copy. I believe the PC99 prerequisite to get the CYC is due to the materials on the CYC being tied to being used with PC99, so you need it to get the added material. Might be the way Mike negotiated the licence with TI to provide the manuals, etc, on the CYC CD.
RXB
Cool miss talking to Mike Wright as we had many long conversations on phone over the years.
