eightbit Posted June 29 Share Posted June 29 (edited) I'd like to put out a little warning regarding the "Interest Check: Pre-made upgraded 161-in-1 multicarts" posted by rewrite (Ryan) on both KLOV and the Arcade Projects forums. A lot of people went in on this, which for those that do not know is a project to take the cheap(ish) AliExpress 161-in-1 Neo Geo multicart and modify it by way of adding a daughterboard and additional ROMs to have it include the entire collection on the one cart. It was posted here last year and that is what led me to the path to reach out to Ryan and declare interest. I had purchased a $113 AES cart from Aliexpress for this and paid more to ship it to Ryan in Cali. It was sent in November of 2023. There are others that either sent carts or sent money to Ryan way before that. Over the months there have been some updates and it was pretty consistent so I was not worrying much. Some strange explanations started arising for why things where not being done with most recently some "2nd party" that took all of the inventory from him and apparently flaked out and could not continue to do the job. They were then supposed to go to some other party...but then nothing. No posts or updates since June 7th. I checked on the address I sent my cart to and, well, the apartment is on Zillow for rent: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5021-Jurupa-Ave-APT-17-Riverside-CA-92504/2114433745_zpid/ All not so good things. I emailed Ryan and politely asked him to paypal refund me the amount that I had paid for the cart and the shipping to him. I honestly have no idea if that is going to happen. I am just putting this out as a public service announcement because I believe this is not going to go in my (or others) favor to be quite honest. I hope I am wrong. But for some reason I was reluctant to do so because the more I was reading the updates regarding the progress, the more it became bizarre to me. I think he became too dependent on outsourcing the project, trusting others, and now it shows with the problems arising that has you, me and the rest involved in concerned. I personally stopped sharing news since it started to get suspicious with these peculiar explanations. Will the carts eventually be ever done? Maybe. But it would be a while in my opinion. I'm still on the list, but at this point I feel nothing changing will occur in the meantime. I still trust rewrite, but I believe that he got burned on his end with having too many involved that should've tried to keep this project of participants to a minimum and had too many groups involved.
