It's a bit wild to think that The King of Fighters was born 30 years ago to marry together the worlds of Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Psycho Soldier and Ikari Warriors into something new that would stand the test of time in its own right.

To help celebrate KOF's 30th anniversary, SNK is now releasing some of their original concept art and illustrations for the first few entries for fans to get a new look at the franchise's history.

They of course kicked things off with the very beginning of the iconic crossover with King of Fighters '94.

SNK shared the concept art of a handful of the original teams including for Kyo, Terry, Mai, Yuri and Team Ikari Warriors.

It's interesting to see these pieces of fighting game history now, especially when the final product looked notably different.

These outlined illustrations had to be converted into pixel art to go into the games themselves, so the line art is recognizable but unique.

We've included some of the final character endings in the gallery, so you can compare them for yourselves and see how King is left out of the drawing for the Women Fighters.

Now, SNK has also dropped some of the original character / team illustrations for King of Fighters '95 as well.

We can see what the artists were going for with Iori and Kyo before they were colorized along with four pieces of early Shinkiro artwork of the teams.

These art drops are part of the 30 reveals SNK has planned for KOF's big anniversary though it's unknown if there's going to be any new game or media content included right now

For their current plans, Mai Shiranui was recently revealed for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves sporting a brand new costume besides her signature red dress.

You can check out the current selection of classic KOF art below compared to their final products.

Hi guys,

Back with Adam Koralik discussing about Bluetooth controllers for the Neo-Geo & Dreamcast. This will be cool to watch. Enjoy. :)

From the description,

"It's Adam Koralik here and today we're discussing two new dongle devices, one by a company called Humble Bazooka and the other is 8BitMods. Each performs the same basic function, plus or minus a few features, they allow us to use bluetooth controllers on the Sega Dreamcast as well as SNK Neo Geo AES, Neo Geo CD, and even consolized MVS'! Huge Shout out to Stone Age Gamer for making this happen."

Hey @Charlie Cat,

I know this is out of the blue, but since Gladmort may not see a Neo Geo CD release, where can we get the Dreamcast version instead? By the time I knew a DC version was coming, the Kickstarter for the game had ended.

Where should we look for the DC version, now that the Kickstarter is over?

Thank you in advance.

Perfect! Thank you! I missed out on the Kickstarter, so pre-ordering it through the store works too. I’ll keep a lookout for the order page!

You're welcome Mike. Same here. I plan to order on their shop page for the Neo-Geo version of it. I couldn't participate on the KickStarter, so PixelHearts shop page will be my only option to order the game.

Mai Shiranui debuted back in 1992's Fatal Fury 2, and has since become one of fighting games' most beloved recurring characters as she's garnered such a fan base that she rivals the likes of Street Fighter's Chun-Li and Darkstalkers' Morrigan Aensland in popularity.

Mai has donned her trademark red kunoichi dress (it has admittedly run on the pinker side in some instances) in her myriad of appearances over the last 32 years, and so it came as quite a shock when, here in 2024, SNK developers finally decided to give her a new standard costume. Fans all across the internet are showing appreciation for this bold move as we've collected fan art of biker Mai from a slew of various, talented artists.

As her standard attire in the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves (set to release on on April 24, 2025) replaces her flowing red dress with a partially un-zipped black leather jacket with pink floral designs embroidered across the back. She dons matching pants and high heel boots, but still retains the traditional red and white theme on her fans.

We call this a bold move by SNK because Mai has accumulated many devoted fans over the last three decades, and changing anything about such an established character always runs the risk of emotionally-enhanced disapproval; the frequency in which we see Miss Shiranui featured in games, cosplayed, and drawn by artistically gifted fans is extremely telling.

It's that last category that we're honing in on today as we've rounded up a 12-image gallery as 12 different artists share their versions of Mai in her new gear.

There are a variety of styles and techniques on display as Mai goes from realistic to cartoon-like, or is drawn more with pencil vs. paint, but they all point to a general appreciation and even celebration of the new look (especially considering this is the second roundup of new Mai artwork we've done).

You can check out all the artwork for yourself via the gallery below and then let us know what you think of SNK's call to change up a character long-beloved for her visuals, as well as their execution in doing so.

26-terry-burnout-snk-reference.webp

From what we've seen so far, Capcom seems to be knocking it out of the park when it comes to converting SNK's Terry Bogard over to Street Fighter 6 as their first-ever guest character with tons of references and callbacks found in his gameplay.

The love for Fatal Fury even goes so far as to show up when the Wild Wolf is in one of his weakest states in SF6.

Now that we've received full match footage of Terry in action, fans are obviously combing through every little detail that wasn't present in his initial trailer where they've found quite a few things of interest.

There's the fact that Capcom went so far as to give Terry different animations depending on his outfit, and he's got more subtle details that are hard to spot at first glance.

When he's in Burnout, for example, Mr. Bogard apparently flashes back to 1991 considering his fighting stance changes to what he used to do in the original Fatal Fury.

Normally, Terry's idle animation is close to how it appears in more modern games like The King of Fighters 15 with his right arm held up tight while the left hangs down in a more loose fashion.

In Burnout, however, he tightens up the stance like he used to back in the day.

This isn't the most surprising thing in the world since most other SF6 characters similarly revert back to their Street Fighter 2 idle animations in Burnout if they existed back then like Chun-Li, Cammy and the rest.

It is really cool, though, to see that this same level of attention is being paid to their honored guest as well and fits right in since it's from the same era.

26_tebu.webp

Now, we'll have to see if they gave Terry any special interactions with Ken like we had back in the Capcom vs. SNK days.

Heck, Capcom already hit us with multiple Street Fighter 2 and Fatal Fury references in just the opening seconds of his trailer.

They'll hopefully pack a lot into his World Tour appearance too since we've already seen Andy, Joe and Blue Mary hanging around his intros / stage.

On top of the new DLC character, Capcom is going to also add in some new features for SF6 that players should appreciate including replay takeover and special AI training partners.

Terry is slated to release on September 24, and we'll be seeing even more out of him in the coming days and weeks until then too.

The more we see of Terry Bogard in Street Fighter 6 the more impressed we become as it's increasingly clear Capcom has treated the Street Fighter franchise's premier guest with enough thoughtful tender love and care to do justice to his 30+ years of existence.

Monday seemingly marked the end of an embargo for new Terry footage as a handful of content creators and news outlets have released a bunch of it. We've already seen evidence of a ton of Easter egg references and extra mile details, but fans are talking right now about how Terry has a slightly different intro and win animations based on the costume he's wearing.

Gamespot has rolled out some nine minutes of brand new gameplay footage for SF6's next DLC character, and during their video we get to see a Terry mirror match wherein first player is using his standard attire while second player is using his alternate look that comes from his Garou: Mark of the Wolves appearance.

Terry is normally seen sporting his trademark red "Fatal Fury" hat, and this accessory plays a role in his animations as he tends to toss it up into the air and stylistically snag it.

His intro animation actually begins with the hat spinning in midair as Terry leaps to grab it and put it on his head. If you win with Mr. Bogard, he proceeds to pound the ground and then toss his hat up into the sky as the ground pound explosion frames him from a low angle shot.

Pick The Legendary Wolf's alternate Garou costume and he loses his hat but puts on his equally iconic brown leather jacket.

The jacket essentially replaces the hat for similar, but different animation sequences as Terry positions himself to interact with the alternate clothing article.

This might be a one-off ordeal that simply came about thanks to the pairing of the aforementioned differences in clothing and the fact that Terry interacts with his accessories during intro and outros, but it could also imply we'll be seeing other such alterations with future characters.

We recently covered Terry's pre-fight walk out animations that feature two different SNK cameos based on whether you're on the player one or player two side. While all characters in SF6 have slightly different walk out animations based on their side, none are quite as elaborate as having a completely different background character appear to root you on.

Speaking of different animations, we also only recently got to see what Terry's Critical Art animation looks like thanks to Maximilian's gameplay footage video.

You can see how it differs (it's much better in our opinion) from his level 3 animation and see a ton of additional gameplay footage with breakdown and commentary from Max.
