copper20
I was thinking about having my 2600 plugged into a surge protector and turn off the power strip when it's not in use. Is this okay?
jaybird3rd
I do the same with all my vintage systems. The power supplies do continue to use a (small) amount of electricity even while the systems are not being used, and they do generate heat, so putting them on a surge protector and switching it off can eliminate waste and extend the life of the hardware. I also do it because many of these systems are decades old now, and one never knows what can go wrong with aging electronics. I don't want a blown capacitor or some other catastrophe to happen when I'm away, and cutting the power is one way to ensure that.
Greg2600
I'd be more concerned with having the AC Adapter crap out from being plugged in and heated up. That's what used to make them fail when I was a little kid! Took me several years to realize I should unplug the darn things.
