RevEng
As mentioned in the 7800 MCP DevCart thread, I converted a bunch of games to the $3000 hotspot the cart uses. I've attached the collection of binaries to the bottom of this post, so people getting the cart will have something to test it out with. The list of games follows. You may notice that I've included Ballblazer, which is a non-banked game. Non-banked games normally wouldn't require conversion, but in this case I converted Ballblazer's Pokey access for use with the upcoming Pokey MCP DevCart.Enjoy!ballblazer-mcp.binbasketbrawl-mcp.bincommando-mcp.bindarkchamb-mcp.binfatalrun-mcp.binfightnight-mcp.binikariwarriors-mcp.binjinks-mcp.binklax-mcp.binmatmania-mcp.binmean18-mcp.binmidnightm-mcp.binmotorpsycho-mcp.binninjagolf-mcp.binplanetsmashers-mcp.binplutos-mcp.binpossiblemission-mcp.binscrapyard-mcp.binsentinel-mcp.binsirius-mcp.binsummerg-mcp.bintowertop-mcp.binwaterski-mcp.binwinterg-mcp.binxenophobe-mcp.bina7800_mcp_games.zip
CPUWIZ
Totally awesome. RevEng found at least 3 bugs/nuiscances in the BIOS, that have already been patched, all because of this research work. Fantastic work. Since none shipped yet, I can reflash all of them and there should be no "day-one" patch required.
iesposta
Beef Drop (demo version Jul 18 2006), no mod necessary, works with POKEY sound in the Dev Cart POKEY version. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/187791-7800-hsc-season-4-game-11-beef-drop/?p=2373824
CPUWIZ
Beef Drop (demo version Jul 18 2006), no mod necessary, works with POKEY sound in the Dev Cart POKEY version. Really? Doesn't Beef Drop access the POKEY at $4000?
iesposta
Really? Doesn't Beef Drop access the POKEY at $4000? It is playing POKEY music and TIA sound effects. The music is quieter than the sound effects. It is said it will use POKEY when it sees an XM. My Beef Drop VE cart has the opening ditty "out of tune" a la TIA. CPUWIZ
Ahh, actually it isn't XM, it's trying to detect the XBoard and since my POKEY access lives anywhere from $0400-$047F and $0500-$057F, it succeeds. Cool!
iesposta
I would like to report that "Froggie" does not run. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/69060-frogger-first-playable-demo/?p=2775162 It loads, and it does play POKEY sound, but as you play the sound starts to corrupt in Level 2, and then the display goes corrupt. The Tempest that Groovybee was porting runs fine. No sound, and when you clear a level you die like it is reported in the emulators. (I need to start planning 7800 Mappy. I think I'm finished with .rom testing.)
CPUWIZ
Could be a similar bug to some of the bugs Bob had in his earlier games, poking into the ROM area.
RevEng
Confirmed with the MESS debugger. Upon finishing level 1 in Froggie, the code @$BC5C does a plain "lda #$00" and "sta $c77c". Not sure if thats the result of a typo or what, but in a non-ROM cart this winds up changing the existing code @$C77B from "sta $89" to "sta $00". This is no doubt what mucks it up, though I haven't bothered to build up the context and figure out what memory location $89 actually does in froggie, and what missing its update leads to.
iesposta
Anyone try Super Circus AtariAge on the Pokey Dev Cart? One of the games I've never played and really want to play. These are the latest files I could find: SUPERCIR.bin SUPERCIR.A78

These are the latest files I could find: You need a special version of that game, the POKEY is in the wrong spot in that file.
