ATARI back to hardware?

Recommended Posts

Not sure - I think that's all about luck. The NUON chipset should have back-doored a console into every damn DVD player. But it just didn't happen.

NUON required industry cooperation and it becomes a chicken & egg problem. Do the big electronics companies want to pay someone for technology that hasn't been proven profitable yet? It's a very tough sell.

I've been saying this for yearswhy not make an Atari TV? Same goes for Amiga. Why can't these numbskulls come up with similar ideas? After all, Vizio came out of nowhere to become a powerhouse in TVs. There's nothing stopping Atari or Amiga from doing the same except for corporate brainpower.

Vizio was a fluke, just another cheap knockoff electronics wholesale brand for a small range of aging plasma technology that scaled HD content to a 1024x768 screen. What made hem the powerhouse they are today was the "stimulus check" everyone got from the US government. The crappy Vizio TV was at that time the largest television one could buy with the $600 stimulus check as opposed to 24" and 32" competitors at wal-mart. Suddenly all of USA had large flat screen televisions and Vizio just made a billion dollars overnight.

Are you talking about an integrated Atari in a television? Perhaps a smallish CRT with integrated console like the Disney branded televisions or something similar would be nice.

Considering CRTs are no longer produced and are piling up on curbsides, we definitely won't be seeing another CRT anything. On the plus side, we're finally seeing modern displays with technology in them that match the best properties of CRTs (i.e., the few properties where they excel), so there's no reason not to think that within five years we could have classic stuff that looks better on such displays than they ever did on the best tube technology.
